Mulanje
Mulanje, formerly called Mlanje, is a town in the Southern Region, Malawi, Southern Region of Malawi, close to the border with Mozambique, to the east. It is near the Mulanje Massif. History A mission was established here and it was at first on the banks of the mountain. It moved in 1928 to new buildings which included staff houses, a small maternity based hospital and a school. 1950 saw the construction of a place for trainee midwives to live and eight years later an operating theatre was built. 1972 saw a new block for maternity, 1980 a ward for children and in 1999 it could claim to be a full hospital as it opened a ward for men. Location The town of Mulanje lies along the M-2 highway from Thyolo to the west to the Mozambican border to the east. Mulanje Massif
The Mulanje Massif, also known as Mount Mulanje, is a large inselberg in southern Malawi. Sapitwa Peak, the highest point on the massif at 3,002 m, is the highest point in Malawi. It lies 65 km east of Blantyre, Malawi, Blantyre, rising sharply from the surrounding plains of Phalombe and the Mulanje district. It forms part of a proposed Ecoregions of Malawi, ecoregion, to be called the South East Africa Montane Archipelago (SEAMA). Geography Much of the massif consists of rolling grassland at elevations of 1800–2200 m, intersected by deep forested ravines. It has many individual peaks reaching heights of over 2500 m, including Chambe Peak, the West Face of which is the longest Rock climbing, rock climb in Africa. The massif was formed by the intrusion of magma into the Earth's crust about 130 million years ago. Mulanje is a district in the Southern Region of Malawi. Its capital is Mulanje. The district covers an area of 2,056 km.² and has a population of 428,322. ''Widdringtonia whytei'', the Mulanje cedar or Mulanje cypress, is a species of conifer native to Malawi, where it is endemism, endemic to the Mulanje Massif at altitudes of 1,830–2,550 m. Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust
The Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust (MMCT) is a conservation trust in Malawi. The trust focuses on the Mulanje Mountain Forest Reserve. Malawi
Malawi, officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in Southeastern Africa. Roseby Gadama
Roseby Gadama became the Malawian member of parliament for Zomda Thondwe in 2019. She is the chair of the Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus and she sits on the Public Accounts Committee. Life Gadama was born in Mulanje in eastern Malawi. She became the member of parliament for the Zomba Thondwe Constituency in the 2019 Malawian general election. She wanted to represent the Democratic Progressive Party,but she stood as an independent after protests involving tear gasand gunfire during the primaries. Some would have preferred a male candidate and that is who won the DPP's backing. At one point,six car of police arrived, her car was hit with a bullet, but she had changed cars. ''Encephalartos gratus'' is a species of cycad that is native to Malawi and Mozambique. Description The trunks of this plant are solitary, spherical, or reach up to 1.2 meters in height and 60 cm in width. The cataphylls are triangular and gradually taper from a width of 8 - 12 cm at the base. They are usually hairy on the underside. The plant has numerous arched leaves and shaped like a lance or a narrow oval. These leaves are 0.9 - 1.8 meters long and 34 - 44 cm wide, with a flat surface, a rounded tip, and a base that narrows abruptly. The petioles are 10 - 12 cm long with a swollen base, and is densely covered in brown hair. The rhachis is slightly conical and either smooth or slightly ridged. The leaflets are arranged in 30 to 70 pairs and do not overlap, dull green, flexible, and either straight or bent forward.
