Moycullen
Moycullen ( ga, Maigh Cuilinn) is a Gaeltacht village in County Galway, Ireland, about 10 km (7 mi) northwest of Galway city. It is near Lough Corrib, on the N59 road to Oughterard and Clifden, in Connemara. Moycullen is now a satellite town of Galway with some residents commuting to the city for work, school, and business. Although Moycullen and its hinterland are classified as a ‘Gaeltacht’ area, the language has not been the local vernacular for many years. Moycullen falls under a Category C Gaeltacht Area due to its low percentage of daily Irish speakers. Education There is a primary school in the village, Scoil Mhuire, and three other primary schools in the parish: Scoil Naomh Bríde in Tullykyne, Scoil Bhaile Nua in Newtown, and Scoil Naomh Cholmáin in Tooreeny. Moycullen GAA
Moycullen GAA ( ga, CLG Maigh Cuilinn) is a group title for several Gaelic Athletic Association clubs based in Moycullen, County Galway. The three clubs, Cumann Peile Mhaigh Cuilinn (Moycullen Football Club), Cumann Iománaíocht Maigh Cuilinn (Moycullen Hurling Club) and Cumann Camógaíocht Mhaigh Cuilinn (Moycullen Camogie Club) share playing facilities and cooperate on a number of the local community and sporting issues. The clubs are members of the Galway GAA. There are two other clubs in the parish with indirect GAA affiliations, Moycullen Ladies Football Club and Moycullen Handball Club, who also share the club facilities. Moycullen Basketball Club
Moycullen Basketball Club is an Irish basketball club based in Moycullen, County Galway. The club was founded in 1966. The club's senior men's representative team plays in the Irish Super League. The team first played in the Super League, Ireland's top basketball league, in 2009. In 2014, they dropped down to the second-tiered National League Division 1 and won the Division 1 title. Seán Kyne (born 16 May 1975) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has been a Senator for the Cultural and Educational Panel since March 2020, and previously from February 2020 to March 2020, after being nominated by the Taoiseach. N59 Road (Ireland)
The N59 road is a national secondary road in Ireland. It commences in County Sligo, south of Sligo Town at the Belladrehid interchange with the N4 north of Ballysadare. The route circles around the west of Ireland, passing west from Sligo into County Mayo and through Ballina. The N59 continues around Mayo, proceeding indirectly to Westport. Continuing south through Mayo into County Galway, the road passes through the village of Leenaun. The 182-year-old bridge in the centre of the village, carrying the road across the River Lahill, collapsed in floods on 18 July 2007. Due to the local terrain and road network, the diversionary route for getting from the south of the village to Westport was 110 km long. A temporary bridge was opened eight days after the floods, on 27 July. It has since been replaced by a new bridge. South of Leenaun, the N59 proceeds southwest through Connemara to Clifden. Connemara
Connemara (; )( ga, Conamara ) is a region on the Atlantic coast of western County Galway, in the west of Ireland. The area has a strong association with traditional Irish culture and contains much of the Connacht Irish-speaking Gaeltacht, which is a key part of the identity of the region and is the largest Gaeltacht in the country. Mary O'Malley (poet)
Mary O'Malley (born 1954 in Connemara, Ireland) is an Irish poet whose work has been published in various literary magazines. She has published seven poetry books since 1990 and her poems have been translated into several languages. Life Mary O’Malley was born in Connemara and is a native Irish speaker. She was educated at University College, Galway. She spent eight years living in Portugal where she taught at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She returned to Ireland in the late 1980s, beginning a poetry career in 1990. She lives near the village of Moycullen. She teaches on the MA in Writing at the National University of Ireland, Galway. She has held the Heimbold Chair of Irish Studies at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. Lough Corrib
Lough Corrib ( ; ) is a lake in the west of Ireland. The River Corrib or Galway River connects the lake to the sea at Galway. It is the largest lake within the Republic of Ireland and the second largest on the island of Ireland (after Lough Neagh). It covers 176 km² and lies mostly in County Galway with a small area of its northeast corner in County Mayo. The first canal on the island of Ireland was cut in the 12th century. Known as the Friar's Cut, it allowed boats to pass from Lough Corrib to the sea at Galway. Lough Corrib was designated a Ramsar site on 16 June 1996.
