Mount Hunter (Antarctica)
Mount Hunter () is a mountain in northern Stribog Mountains, high, standing west-southwest of Duclaux Point on Pasteur Peninsula, Brabant Island, in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica. Pasteur Peninsula
Pasteur Peninsula is a broad peninsula long in a north-south direction and ranging from wide between Guyou Bay and Bouquet Bay, forming the north end of Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago of Antarctica. Its interior is occupied by the northern part of Stribog Mountains drained by Oshane, Podayva, Burevestnik and Lister Glaciers. Brabant Island
Brabant Island is the second largest island of the Palmer Archipelago within the British Antarctic Territory, lying between Anvers Island and Liège Island. Brabant Island is long north-south, wide, and rises to in Mount Parry. The interior of the island is occupied by two mountain ranges, Solvay Mountains ( Cook Summit, 1590 m) in its southern part and Stribog Mountains (summit Mount Parry) in its central and northern parts. It was named by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition (1897–1899) under Adrien de Gerlache, who named it after the Belgian Province of Brabant, in recognition of the support given to the expedition by its citizens. A paper summarizing the Joint Services expedition of 1984–1985 describes the island as "notoriously inhospitable" and states that there is evidence for only six visits between the discovery in 1898 and 1984. Palmer Archipelago, also known as Antarctic Archipelago, Archipiélago Palmer, Antarktiske Arkipel or Palmer Inseln, is a group of islands off the northwestern coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. It extends from Tower Island in the north to Anvers Island in the south. It is separated by the Gerlache and Bismarck straits from the Antarctic Peninsula and Wilhelm Archipelago, respectively. Podayva Glacier ( bg, ледник Подайва, lednik Podayva, ) is the 4.5 km long and 3 km wide glacier on Pasteur Peninsula, Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica, situated northeast of Dodelen Glacier and west of Burevestnik Glacier. It drains the north slopes of Stribog Mountains, flows northwards and enters the sea east of Cape Roux and west of Marinka Point. Burevestnik Glacier
Burevestnik Glacier ( bg, ледник Буревестник, lednik Burevestnik, ) is the 4.2 km long and 3.5 km wide glacier on Pasteur Peninsula, Brabant Island in the Palmer Archipelago, Antarctica, situated east of Podayva Glacier and north of Lister Glacier. It drains the north slopes of Stribog Mountains, flows northeastwards and enters the sea east of Marinka Point and northwest of Levenov Point. The glacier is named after the Bulgarian ocean fishing trawler ''Burevestnik'' of the company Ocean Fisheries – Burgas, which operated under Captain Nikola Levenov in Antarctic waters off Kerguelen Islands from December 1974 to February 1975. Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd
Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd was a British aerial photography company founded by Percy Hunting in 1944. Its operations became more diversified under the name Hunting Surveys. History The firm incorporated Aerofilms Ltd and the Aircraft Operating Company. In 1947 it was using three types of aircraft: Austers, a Percival Proctor and a de Havilland Dragon Rapide and planned to acquire one or more Percival Mergansers. The company had contracts for work surveying for tin mining in Nigeria; oil in Arabia, Venezuela and Colombia; timber in Ontario; and mapping in Australia & Hong Kong (in 1963). Between 1957 and 1964, Hunting operated a specially converted Auster Autocar for smaller scale aerial survey work. In 1960 the firm was merged with Hunting Geophysics Ltd to form Hunting Surveys Ltd. UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee (or UK-APC) is a United Kingdom government committee, part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, responsible for recommending names of geographical locations within the British Antarctic Territory (BAT) and the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI). Such names are formally approved by the Commissioners of the BAT and SGSSI respectively, and published in the BAT Gazetteer and the SGSSI Gazetteer maintained by the Committee. The BAT names are also published in the international Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica maintained by SCAR. The Committee may also consider proposals for new place names for geographical features in areas of Antarctica outside BAT and SGSSI, which are referred to other Antarctic place-naming authorities, or decided by the Committee itself if situated in the unclaimed sector of Antarctica.
