Moscot
Moscot is an American luxury eyewear brand, headquartered in New York City, specializing in optical frames and sunglasses. It was founded on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1915 by Hyman Moscot, and is one of the oldest local businesses in New York City, as well as the 21st oldest eyewear company in the world still operating. It remains privately owned by the Moscot family. History Early years, 20th century In 1899, when he was in his 20s, Jewish-Belarusian immigrant Hyman Mushcot arrived in New York City through Ellis Island, allegedly where his surname was shortened and changed to Moscot. He settled down in Manhattan's Lower East Side, and having already worked in the optical business in his home country, he began selling ready-made eyeglasses from a wooden pushcart on Orchard Street. Chris Benz is an American fashion designer and interior decorator. He gained early recognition as a recipient of a CFDA scholarship while attending Parsons School of Design. Benz interned with Marc Jacobs in college, then worked at J.Crew, before launching his own collection in 2007. His signatures include use of color, texture and prints, as well as subversion of traditional dressmaking codes and techniques. The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is a museum and National Historic Site located at 97 and 103 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City, United States. The museum's two historical tenement buildings were home to an estimated 15,000 people, from over 20 nations, between 1863 and 1935 (97 Orchard Street) and 1888 and 2015 (103 Orchard Street). The museum, which includes a visitors' center, promotes tolerance and historical perspective on the immigrant experience.
