Morgan State Lady Bears Softball
The Morgan State Lady Bears softball team represents Morgan State University in NCAA Division I college softball. The team competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Lady Bears are currently led by head coach Larry Hineline. The team plays its home games at Lois T. Murray Field located on the university's campus. History The Lady Bears have been the regular season champions in the MEAC for four consecutive seasons from 2021 to 2024. They were also the conference tournament champions in 2021, which earned them a spot in the 2021 NCAA Division I softball tournament, where they lost to Oklahoma in the first round of the Norman Super Regional. Morgan State Bears
The Morgan State Bears are the twelve varsity sports teams representing Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, cross country, tennis and track and field; women's-only bowling, softball, and volleyball; and men's-only football. The Bears compete in the Division I FCS, NCAA Division I FCS and are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Teams In October 2021, the school announced their plans to resurrect a wrestling team that last competed in 1997. The program started in 2023, with NCAA Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Kenny Monday as their head coach. 2024 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament
The 2024 NCAA Division I softball tournament was held from May 17 through June 6, 2024, as the final part of the 2024 NCAA Division I softball season. The tournament ended with the 2024 Women's College World Series at Devon Park in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma won the 2024 Women's College World Series, becoming the first team in college softball history to four-peat. Dayton, Siena and Southeastern Louisiana made their NCAA Division I softball tournament debuts. All 13 softball playing schools of the Southeastern Conference were selected for the tournament. This marked the fourth time in conference history that all 13 programs qualified for the NCAA tournament. NCAA Division I Softball Tournament
The NCAA Division I softball tournament is held annually in May/June and features 64 college softball teams in the United States, culminating in the Women's College World Series (WCWS), which is played in Oklahoma City. Tournament play and team selection The tournament is different from many college tournaments in that it features four tiers of competition and a loss does not necessarily eliminate a team from contention. In fact, throughout the entire tournament a team can lose as many as four games and still be crowned champions. A total of 64 teams compete in the tournament. 32 teams gain automatic entry into the tournament while the other 32 are selected by the Division I Softball committee. 2024 Morgan State Lady Bears Softball Team
4 (four) is a number, numeral and digit. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures.
