''More Action'' is the fourth studio album by the American garage rock band ? and the Mysterians, and was released on May 25, 1999, on Cavestomp Records. The album provides a summary of the band's initial tenure in the 1960s, and also functions as a survey of the group's re-recordings of their recording history between 1966 and 1969, along with new material. Background Since the owners of (?) Question Mark and the Mysterians' original recordings refused to release CD reissues of the band's two albums, the group would reunite to record new versions of their past songs. Included in the album are the group's more important tracks such as "96 Tears", "Can't Get Enough of You Baby", and "Girl (You Captivate Me)". ? and the Mysterians (or Question Mark and the Mysterians) are an American garage rock band from Bay City and Saginaw in Michigan, initially active between 1962 and 1969. Much of the band's music consisted of electric organ-driven garage rock and an enigmatic image inspired by the 1957 Japanese science fiction film ''The Mysterians''. In addition, the band's sound was also marked by the raw, resonating lead vocals of "?" (Question Mark, the stage name of Rudy Martínez), making Question Mark and the Mysterians one of the earliest groups whose musical style is described as punk rock. Their music and imagery were highly influential on later bands. "Sally Go 'Round the Roses" is the name of a 1963 hit song, hit by the Jaynetts, a the Bronx, Bronx-based one-hit wonder girl group, released by J & S Records, J&S Records on the Tuff label. Background The producer of "Sally Go 'Round the Roses", Abner Spector, was an Artists and Repertoire, A&R man for the Chicago-based Chess Records. Spector was responsible for The Corsairs' 1962 number 12 hit "Smoky Places", which had been released on Tuff, a subsidiary of J&S Records. In the summer of 1963, Spector asked J&S owner, Zelma "Zell" Sanders, to assemble a vocal ensemble to record a girl group style record, to which end Sanders wrote the song "Sally..." with Spector's wife Lona Stevens, drawing inspiration from the nursery rhyme "Ring a Ring o' Roses, Ring around the Rosie". Roosevelt Jamison
Roosevelt Jamison (July 15, 1936 – March 27, 2013) was an American music manager, publicist and songwriter who worked in Memphis, Tennessee, during the 1960s. His most notable composition was "That's How Strong My Love Is", first recorded by O.V. Wright and released on Quinton Claunch's Goldwax record label in 1964. Biography Jamison was born in Olive Branch, Mississippi. He was always interested in music and was an important figure on the Memphis scene, managing local groups and rehearsing them at the back of the Interstate Blood Bank he ran on Beale Street. It was through these groups that he discovered O.V. Wright and James Carr, who were both with the gospel group The Harmony Echoes. "That's How Strong My Love Is" is a song written by Roosevelt Jamison and first recorded in 1964 by deep soul singer O. V. Wright. The song is a soulful love ballad and has been cover version, covered many times, most notably in 1965 by Otis Redding, with Redding's cover reaching no.18 on the ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' R&B chart and no.74 on the US Hot 100, pop chart. Martin Reverby, better known by his stage name Martin Rev, (born December 18, 1947) is an American musician who was one half of the influential synth-punk band Suicide. Rev has also released several solo albums for a number of record labels, including ROIR and Puu. His style varies widely from release to release, from harsh and abrasive no wave (''Martin Rev'') to light bubblegum pop (''Strangeworld'') to heavy synthesizer rock (''To Live''). Lyres are a Boston-area garage rock band led by Jeff Conolly, founded in 1979 following the breakup of DMZ (band), DMZ. Their most popular songs include "Don't Give It Up Now," "She Pays The Rent" and "Help You Ann".
