Montréal Toundra
The Montréal Toundra () are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Montreal, Quebec. Founded in 2022, the team competes in The Basketball Super League (North America), Basketball Super League (BSL) and play their home games at the Centre Pierre Charbonneau. It played its first game on March 4, 2023, a 121-117 win over the 2023 TBL season, Virginia Valley Vipers. On Nov 1, 2024, the team announced through social media that they would withdraw for the 2024-25 Basketball Super League (North America), BSL season due to apparent disagreements with the league. They stated an intent to return for the 2025-26 season. Background Prior to 2021, the most recent professional basketball team in Montreal was in 2012 when the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) added the Montreal Jazz as an expansion team. The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL; ) is the premier men's professional basketball league in Canada, as recognized by Canada Basketball. The CEBL was founded in 2017 and began play in 2019 with six teams all owned and operated by ownership group Canadian Basketball Ventures. The league currently consists of 10 teams from six provinces, with four from Ontario, two from Alberta, and one each from British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Quebec, the largest number of teams of any professional sports league operating entirely in Canada. Igor Rwigema
Igor Rwigema is a Congolese-Canadian basketball coach. Originally from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwigema emigrated to Quebec and resides in Gatineau. He established a basketball program at Collège d'Alma in Alma, Quebec before moving it to Cégep de Thetford in Thetford Mines, Quebec. The program helped develop future NBA player Chris Boucher among other high-level professional and university-level players such as Tidjan Keita. David Magley
David John Magley (born November 24, 1959) is an American retired basketball player and coach. He is currently the president of both The Basketball League (TBL) and the Basketball Super League (BSL) after previously serving as commissioner of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). Early life He played basketball at South Bend LaSalle High School. Following his senior year, Magley was named Indiana Mr. Basketball, beating Randy Wittman and Ted Kitchel for the award, and was selected to the Academic All-State and Parade All American teams. NBA and CBA Magley was drafted with the fifth pick in the second round of the 1982 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
