''Monsters of Rock'' is a heavy metal/hard rock compilation album released by Razor & Tie, which includes 16 hits of the 1980s "hair metal" scene (except for .38 Special's 1981 hit "Hold on Loosely"), many of which charted in either the Top 10 or Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. A 2 disc version was also released, heavily promoted by TV commercials and containing 35 songs (except for Cheap Trick's " Surrender", which was released in 1978). The single-disc version was eventually certified platinum by the RIAA in 2001. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a Music genre, genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. Winger is an American hard rock band formed in New York City in 1987. Winger gained popularity during the late 1980s and early 1990s with two RIAA certification, platinum albums, ''Winger (album), Winger'' and ''In the Heart of the Young'', along with charting singles "Seventeen (Winger song), Seventeen", "Headed for a Heartbreak" and "Miles Away (Winger song), Miles Away". "Seventeen" is a single by American rock band Winger from their debut album ''Winger''. Released in 1989, the song charted at No. 26 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100.
