The Marantaceae are a family, the arrowroot family, or the prayer plant family, of flowering plants consisting of 31 genera and around 530 species, defining it as one of the most species-rich families in its order. Karl Moritz Schumann
Karl Moritz Schumann (17 June 1851 – 22 March 1904) was a German botanist. Schumann was born in Görlitz. He was curator of the Berlin-Dahlem Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum, Botanisches Museum in Berlin-Dahlem from 1880 until 1894. He also served as the first chairman of the ''Deutsche Kakteen-Gesellschaft'' (German Cactus Society) which he founded on 6 November 1892. He died in Berlin. Karl Moritz Schumann participated as a collaborator in ''Die Natürlichen Pflanzenfamilien'' by Adolf Engler and K. A. E. Prantl and in ''Flora Brasiliensis'' by Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius. French Guinea
French Guinea () was a French colonial possession in West Africa. Its borders, while changed over time, were in 1958 those of the current independent nation of Guinea. French Guinea was established by France in 1891, within the same borders as its previous colony known as Rivières du Sud (1882–1891). Prior to 1882, the coastal portions of French Guinea were part of the French colony of Senegal. In 1891, Rivières du Sud was placed under the colonial lieutenant governor at Dakar, who had authority over the French coastal regions east to Porto-Novo (modern Benin). In 1894 Rivières du Sud, Côte d'Ivoire and Dahomey were separated into 'independent' colonies, with Rivières du Sud being renamed as the Colony of French Guinea. Helen Kennedy (botanist)
Helen Kennedy (born 1944) is an American botanist, botanical collector, and expert of the Marantaceae family. Taxa named after Kennedy include '' Philodendron heleniae'' and '' Guzmania kennedyae.'' In 2011, Kennedy received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Society of Woman Geographers Education Kennedy was born in Riverside, California. She has a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in botany from University of California, Davis. She also has a doctoral degree from University of California. Career Kennedy has worked at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama and has served as curator of the Summit Canal Zone Herbarium in Panama. She has also worked as Curator of the Summit Herbarium at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Kennedy has also worked for the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg and the Chicago Field Museum.
