It is believed to derive from a Gothic, or Gascon given name Munnius, Monio, Munino, Monnio, Munnio used in the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle-Ages. António Egas Moniz
António Caetano de Abreu Freire Egas Moniz (29 November 1874 – 13 December 1955), known as Egas Moniz (), was a Portuguese neurologist and the developer of cerebral angiography. He is regarded as one of the founders of modern psychosurgery, having developed the surgical procedure ''leucotomy''better known today as ''lobotomy''for which he became the first Portuguese national to receive a Nobel Prize in 1949 (shared with Walter Rudolf Hess). He held academic positions, wrote many medical articles and also served in several legislative and diplomatic posts in the Portuguese government. Ricardo Moniz (born 17 June 1964) is a Dutch professional football manager and former player who is the head coach of Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság I club Zalaegerszeg. Bryant Moniz (born January 1, 1989) is a former American professional gridiron football quarterback. He last played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Early years Moniz was born in Wahiawā, Hawai'i. He attended Leilehua High School in Wahiawa, where he was the starting quarterback for the Leilehua Mules for three years from 2004 to 2006. Matt Moniz (born February 1998) is an American mountaineer and speaker noted for his ascents of 8,000 meter peaks and several of the Seven Summits. Early climbs In 2007, Moniz climbed to the Mount Everest Base Camp. It was Moniz's first experience with hiking and scaling a mountain. In 2008, following the Nepal trek Moniz summitted Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. Moniz then climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro with his twin sister Kaylee at the age of 10, accompanied by their parents. He also climbed to the summit of Aconcagua, the highest summit in the Americas. He was the youngest person to ever reach the summit.
