(English language, English: ''Saint-Girons Church''; Béarnese dialect, Béarnese Occitan language, Occitan: ''glèisa de Sent Gironç'') is a Roman Catholic church architecture, church located in the communes of France, commune of Monein in Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Aquitaine. The edifice is in the Gothic architecture, Gothic architectural style. It was classified as a of France on 7 August 1913. Its grand size made it the largest Gothic church in Béarn in the 15th century. It is most famous for its heart of oak frame which represents the Medieval architecture style. History Construction In the 16th century, Monein was a growing village with over 5,000 residents, or 850 ''feu fiscal, fires''; ( in official Béarnese documents at the time), whereas in Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Pau there were only about 700 residents, as shown by the (census for taxation purposes) in Béarn. Cagot
The ''Cagots'' () were a persecuted minority who lived in the west of France and northern Spain: the Navarrese Pyrenees, Basque provinces, Béarn, Aragón, Gascony and Brittany. Evidence of the group exists as far back as 1000 CE. The name they were known by varied across the regions where they lived. The origins of the Cagots remain uncertain, with various hypotheses proposed throughout history. Some theories suggest they were descendants of biblical or legendary figures cursed by God, or the descendants of medieval lepers, while others propose they were related to the Cathars or even a fallen guild of carpenters. Aubertin () is a Communes of France, commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Departments of France, department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of south-western France. Geography Aubertin is located in Béarn some 10 km west of Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Pau and 8 km north-west of Gan, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Gan. Access to the commune is by the D146 from Artiguelouve in the north-east which passes through the north of the commune and goes west to Lacommande. Access to the village is by the D346 which branches south from the D146 in the commune and continues through the village to join the D24 some 6 km west of Gan. The commune has a mix of forest and farmland throughout its territory. The Baïse forms the western border of the commune as it flows north to join the Gave de Pau at Abidos, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Abidos. Marie Bartête
Marie Bartête (25 February 1863 – 13 March 1938) was a French prisoner. She was sentenced on 4 June 1888 for shoplifting, and was the last woman to die in prison in the penal colony of French Guiana. Biography Bartête was born on 25 February 1863 in Monein, France. She was abandoned by her mother, and became an orphan at the age of 9. She married at the age of 15, and became a widow at the age of 20. She was arrested and imprisoned for shoplifting several times. In 1888, Bartête was accused of "detestable conduct and morals". On 4 June, she was sentenced to the Prison of St-Laurent-du-Maroni in French Guiana. Bartête received the right to marry a former convict of the penal colony, because the authorities wanted to populate the colony. In 1923, the investigative journalist Albert Londres visited Bartête in prison, and wrote down her story in ''Au Bagne'' (1923). Jean Sarrailh
Jean Sarrailh (14 October 1891 – 28 February 1964) was a French historian who specialized in the history and culture of Spain in the 18th and 19th centuries. He was rector of several universities including the University of Paris, was involved with UNESCO and was co-founder of several learned societies. Life Early years (1891–1939) Jean Sarrailh was born in 1891 in Monein, Basses-Pyrénées. His father and grandfather were teachers. He attended the ''École normale supérieure de Saint-Cloud'' (1911–13). He won a scholarship that let him stay in Spain in 1913–14. In June 1914 he submitted a thesis on Antonio Liñán y Verdugo, author of the ''Gula y Avisos de forasteros'' (1620). After a short course at the ''École supérieure'' of Aire-sur-l'Adour, he became a teacher at the ''École pratique de Commerce'' of Agen. Jean-Patrick Lescarboura (born Monein, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, 19 January 1961) is a former French rugby union footballer and coach. His position was fly-half. Club career Lescarboura first team was SA Monein. He spent afterwards his career at US Dax, from 1980–81 to 1992–93, where he won the Challenge Yves du Manoir, in 1982, and lost the final in 1988. Géography Lacommande township is located some 11 km of Pau, 12,3 km of Oloron-Sainte-Marie and 8,8 km of Monein, on GR653, on crossroads of D 146 and D 34. Hydrography Rivers Baïse de Lasseube of Bayse flow from south to north and distinct the communes of Lacommande and commune of Aubertin.
