Mohamed Zakariya
Mohamed Zakariya (born 1942 in Ventura, California, Ventura, California) is an American master Islamic calligraphy, calligrapher and an Islam in the United States, American Muslim convert. Biography Mohamed Zakariya was born in 1942 in Ventura, California, the son of art director Emrich Nicholson and Amy Aplin. Later he moved to Los Angeles with his family. Zakariya saw Islamic calligraphy for the first time in the window of an Armenian carpet store in Los Angeles. Zakariya traveled to Morocco in his late teens where he became fascinated with Islam and Islamic calligraphy, Islamic Calligraphy. After returning from his trip to the United States he converted to Islam. Zakariya studied manuscripts in the British Museum. He then studied with the Egyptian calligrapher Abdussalam Ali-Nour. Nuria Garcia Masip (born in 1978) is a Spanish calligrapher of Arabic calligraphy. She started to learn Arabic calligraphy when she visited Morocco. In 2000, she learned Arabic calligraphy under the tutelage of calligrapher Mohamed Zakariya. Sheikh Hamdullah
Sheikh Hamdullah (1436–1520) (), born in Amasya, Ottoman Empire, was a master of Islamic calligraphy. Life and work Sheikh Hamdullah was born in Amasya, a north-central town in Anatolia. His father, Mustafa Dede, was a Sheik of the Suhrawardi order, and had migrated from Bukhara (in present-day Uzbekistan) to Anatolia. In Amasya, he studied the six scripts under the tutelage of Hayreddin Mar'asi. He learned the traditional method of the old masters, but struggled to reproduce it. While studying, he met Bâyezïd, the son of Sultan Mehmed, the Conqueror who was a fellow student, and the pair became friends.
