Mohamed Ali Gouaned (محمد علي قواند) (5 July 2002, Biskra) is an Algerian middle-distance runner specializing in the 400 meters and 800 meters. He holds the Junior World best in 600 meters with a time of 1:14:79 set in Algiers on 26 March 2021 breaking the record held by Wilfred Bungei since 1 September 1999 with a time of 1:14:94. Gouaned won a silver medal in the 800m Youth race at the 2019 African U18 and U20 Championships in Athletics held in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) behind Abdo Razack Hassan from Djibouti setting in the process an Algerian Youth record in 800m with a time of 1:47:88. Gouaned also won a silver medal in the 800m at the Athletics at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics held in Buenes Aires (Argentina) behind Tasew Yada of Ethiopia. Unknown in Algeria, he came to prominence in 2021 after running a few meetings in Algeria. He finished second to Mohamed Ali Gouaned in 600 meters with a time of 1:17:40 during the Algerian Winter Championships held in Algiers on 26 March 2021. He also ran 1:45.99 in Batna meeting on 12 April 2021 defeating Mohamed Ali Gouaned, and finishing second behind Mohamed Belbachir in Algiers meeting on 7 May 2021 clocking a personal best of 1:45.86. Athletics at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 11 to 16 October. The events took place at the Parque Olímpico de la Juventud in Buenos Aires, Argentina. For the first time, every athletics' event featured 2 stages – 2 separate competitions, both of their results were added together to conclude final standings. Qualification Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter a maximum of 36 athletes, 18 per each gender and 1 per each event. In total, 680 (340 boys and 340 girls) athletes will compete at the Youth Olympics with continental qualification events deciding the majority of athletes.
