The duo experimented with different genres as well as synthesizer patches, percussion instruments, sound effects, and samples. Ratatat ( ) is a Brooklyn-based electronic rock duo consisting of Mike Stroud (guitar, melodica, synthesizers, percussion) and producer Evan Mast (bass, synthesizers, percussion). History Beginnings and first album, ''Ratatat'' (2001–2005) Evan Mast and Mike Stroud first met as students at Skidmore College. They started working together in 2001, recording several songs under the name "Cherry". Stroud had previously toured with Dashboard Confessional in 2000. Ratatat debuted in 2003 with the release of the single "Seventeen Years" on Mast's and his brother Eric's (E*Rock) record label Audio Dregs in the US and Rex Records in the UK. Mike Stroud had been a touring member of Ben Kweller's band, but he "had enough" by 2003 and, after two years of touring, left the band after appearing on their second album, On My Way (released in 2004). Animal Collective
Animal Collective is an American experimental pop band formed in Baltimore County, Maryland. Its members consist of Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Geologist (Brian Weitz), and Deakin (Josh Dibb). The band's work is characterized by an eclectic exploration of styles, including psychedelia, freak folk, noise, and electronica, with the use of elements such as loops, drones, sampling, vocal harmonies, and sound collage. Copy, real name Marius Libman, is an electronic music artist on the Audio Dregs record label. He has released four full-length albums, along with three "DJ Copy" remix CDs. Copy was chosen as the winner of Willamette Week's "Best New Band" award for 2006, which showcases the top new artists in Copy's native Portland, Oregon. Bootleg Remix CDs In 2006, Copy released his first remix CD under the 'DJ Copy' moniker – it featured 6 remixes of R&B/pop artists including Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige. The disc was called "The Diva Mixtape" and was not released digitally. The next year, DJ Copy released another remix CD – this time of rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The disc was titled "Bone Thugs-N-Harmony-N-Copy", and featured 6 remixes of songs by the group including "Ecstasy" and "Tha Crossroads". The disc came with CD order of Hair Guitar from Audio Dregs. ''Classics'' is the second full-length album from Ratatat, released on August 22, 2006. As with their first album, ''Classics'' is almost entirely instrumental, with the only exception being a large cat-like sound sample used in "Wildcat." During a September 15, 2006 interview on radio station KEXP, the band revealed that part of the album was recorded in upstate New York in a house owned by Björk. This album produced three singles: "Lex", "Wildcat", and "Loud Pipes". The track "Tropicana" was featured in the 2007 film ''Knocked Up'' and "Loud Pipes" was featured in the video game '' MLB 07: The Show''. ''Ratatat'' is the debut album from the Brooklyn-based electronic duo of the same name. It was recorded between July 2001 and May 2003 in bassist Evan Mast's Crown Heights, Brooklyn apartment and mixed in June 2003 before its release on April 20, 2004. The album is essentially instrumental, although it has occasional voice excerpts (referred to in the liner notes as "spoken interludes") by local MC and rapper Young Churf. The track "Spanish Armada" contains a French horn played by Michal Emanovsky. Other tracks of note are "Germany to Germany", later released as a single; and "Cherry", a homage to Ratatat's original name. The most well known song on the album is "Seventeen Years".
