Minnesota Senate
The Minnesota Senate is the upper house of the Minnesota Legislature, Legislature of the U.S. state of Minnesota. At 67 members, half as many as the Minnesota House of Representatives, it is the largest upper house of any State legislature (United States), U.S. state legislature. David Senjem
David Howard Senjem ( ; born December 20, 1942) is an American politician currently serving on the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners. He is a former member of the Minnesota Senate, serving in that body from 2003 to 2023. He led the Republican caucus as majority leader from 2011 to 2013. A moderate Republican, Senjem has crossed party lines on many occasions, notably environmental policy and women's issues. He represented District 25, which at the time included portions of Dodge and Olmsted counties in the southeastern part of the state. Much of the northern half of Rochester was in his district. In April 2022, Senjem announced that he would not seek reelection to the Minnesota Senate, and later announced that he would instead run for Olmsted County Commissioner for District 2. Minnesota Legislature
The Minnesota Legislature is the bicameral legislature of the U.S. state of Minnesota consisting of two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. Senators are elected from 67 single-member districts. In order to account for decennial redistricting, members run for one two-year term and two four-year terms each decade. They are elected for four-year terms in years ending in 2 and 6, and for two-year terms in years ending in 0. Representatives are elected for two-year terms from 134 single-member districts formed by dividing the 67 senate districts in half (ie. Senate District 1 Contains House Districts 1A and 1B). Both houses of the legislature meet between January and the first Monday following the third Saturday in May each year, not to exceed 120 legislative days per biennium. Susan Kent (politician)
Susan Kent (born November 18, 1963) is a Minnesota politician and former minority leader of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), she represented District 53 in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area from 2013 to 2023. Early life, education, and career Kent was born in 1963 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She earned her bachelor's degree in communication studies from the University of Texas at Austin. Minnesota Senate Kent was first elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2012. In late 2019, it was reported that Kent intended to challenge Minority Leader Tom Bakk for his caucus leadership post. David W. Hann (born April 16, 1952) is an American politician and a former minority leader of the Minnesota Senate. A Republican, he represented District 48, which consisted of the cities of Eden Prairie and Minnetonka, from 2003-2017. He was the chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota from 2021 to 2024. Tom Bakk
Thomas M. Bakk ( ; born June 8, 1954) is a Minnesota politician. He served in the Minnesota Legislature from 1995 to 2023 and is a former majority leader and minority leader. Early life, education, and career Bakk was born and raised in Cook, Minnesota, where he graduated from Cook High School in 1972. He received an associate degree from Mesabi Community College and a bachelor's degree in business administration and labor relations from the University of Minnesota Duluth. He is a retired union carpenter and labor official. Political career Minnesota House of Representatives Bakk represented District 6A in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003.
