The Ministry of Tourism and Environment is a Maldivian ministry responsible for Tourism in the Maldives, tourism and the environment of the Maldives. History The ministry was established after the Ministry of Tourism (Maldives), Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy was merged to form the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. The merger came with major backlash from the public as many viewed this as the government not caring about tourism. Ministry Of Tourism (Maldives)
The Ministry of Tourism (, ) was part of the Cabinet of the Maldives, Maldivian Executive branch responsible to develop the Tourism in the Maldives, Maldivian tourism industry. The tourism ministry monitors the Tourism in the Maldives, tourism sector and regulates it. The tourism ministry was introduced in 1965 shortly after the History of the Maldives#Independence, independence of Maldives. According to the statistics provided by the ministry, Russia was the number one source of market for the country by 21 January 2023, with 16,974 tourists. Second place is Italy with 11,674 tourist arrivals. Third is India with 11,163 arrivals being recorded. Fourth largest source market being the United Kingdom with 9,509 tourists, while the fifth being Germany with 6,731 tourists. The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy () was a Maldivian government ministry that is tasked with safeguarding and preserving the Maldives ecosystems and biodiversity as well as promoting sustainable energy resources. Thoriq Ibrahim
Thoriq Ibrahim (born 1 February 1969) is a Maldivian politician and the current Minister of Tourism and Environment since 2023. Education Ibrahim acquired a Bachelor's degree in Building Services Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology. In 1995, a master's degree in Building Science from the National University of Singapore in 2002, and an MBA from Preston University in 2004. Career He was appointed as Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy by President Mohamed Muizzu on 17 November 2023. Earlier, he served as the Minister of Environment and Energy from 19 November 2013 to 17 November 2018 during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen.
