Minister Of Energy And Petroleum (The Gambia)
The Minister of Energy and Petroleum is a cabinet-level position in the Gambia. It was formed in January 2016 by a merger of the positions of Minister of Petroleum and Minister of Energy. The incumbent minister is Fafa Sanyang, who serves in Adama Barrow's cabinet. History The Ministry of Petroleum was responsible for petroleum exploration, as well as the development and production of crude oil in the Gambia. The Ministry of Energy was created in 2007 in order to implement government policy in relation to the supply of electricity, water management, petroleum products and renewable energy. The ministries were merged with effect from the 26 January 2016, to become the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. Cabinet Of The Gambia
The Cabinet of The Gambia is responsible for advising the President of The Gambia and for carrying out other functions as prescribed by law. It is composed of the President, the Vice-President, and the Secretaries of State. It is responsible for regulating the procedure of its own meetings and is held accountable for its actions by the National Assembly, according to Sections 74 and 75 of the Constitution of The Gambia. Fafa Sanyang is a Gambian politician and former civil servant who served as Minister of Energy and Petroleum in President Adama Barrow's cabinet from 2017 until a reshuffle in 2022. Adama Barrow
Adama Barrow ( ff, 𞤀𞥄𞤣𞤢𞤥𞤢 𞤄𞤢𞥄𞤪𞤮, Aadama Baaro, born 15 February 1965) is a Gambian politician and real estate developer who has served as President of the Gambia since 2017. Born in Mankamang Kunda, a village near Basse Santa Su, he attended Crab Island Secondary School and the Muslim High School, the latter on a scholarship. He then worked for Alhagie Musa Njie & Sons, a Gambian energy company, where he became a sales manager. Moving to London in the early 2000s, Barrow studied for qualifications in real estate and concurrently worked as a security guard for Argos. Following his victory in the presidential election on 1 December 2016, the newly elected President Adama Barrow appointed a new cabinet to succeed the cabinet of Yahya Jammeh, his predecessor. Barrow was formally inaugurated on 19 January 2017 at the embassy of the Gambia in Dakar, Senegal, and was able to return the Gambia on 26 January. Petroleum, also known as crude oil, or simply oil, is a naturally occurring yellowish-black liquid mixture of mainly hydrocarbons, and is found in geological formations. Teneng Mba Jaiteh is a Gambian politician who serves as Gambia's ambassador to the European Union as well as 7 of its member states. Early life and education Jaiteh was educated at the University of Sierra Leone's Fourabay College and the London School of Economics. She has a BA in History and an MSc in Development Studies. Career Jaiteh served as Deputy State Secretary in The Gambia's Department of Finance and Economic Affairs in 2003, and as Secretary General of the Civil Service from 2008 to 2009, replacing Ousman Jammeh in the post. Sirra Wally Ndow-Njie (also Ndow Njai) is a Gambian politician. She has served as Minister of Energy, Minister of Petroleum, and Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture.
