"Milkumana" is a song by Australian rock group King Stingray, released on 19 August 2021 as the third single from their self-titled debut studio album (2022). In Yolŋu Matha, "Milkumana" means to show, share or pass on knowledge through stories and song. Upon release, the group said the song is about "leadership" saying, "We are all living under the same sun, sailing in the same boat, towards a brighter future. It's about role models and the importance of setting good examples for the new generation." At the J Awards of 2021, the song's video was nominated for Australian Video of the Year. At the National Indigenous Music Awards 2022, the song won Song of the Year. The song won first place in the 2022 Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition. King Stingray is an Rock music in Australia, Australian rock band from East Arnhem Region, Northeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. With a sound self-described as "Yolŋu surf rock", the band perform songs with lyrics in both English and Yolŋu Matha. King Stingray released their debut single, "Hey Wanhaka", in October 2020, and their King Stingray (album), self-titled debut album on 5 August 2022. Career Two of the band's founding members have known one another since childhood – lead vocalist Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu is the nephew of Mandawuy Yunupingu, Dr M. Yunupiŋu, and guitarist Roy Kellaway is the son of Stuart Kellaway, who were both founding members of Yothu Yindi. The pair grew up together in Yolngu country, in the community of Yirrkala, Northern Territory, Yirrkala. The Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition is an annual competition that "acknowledges great songwriting whilst supporting and raising money for Nordoff-Robbins" and is coordinated by Albert Music and APRA AMCOS. The competition awards a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and was named after iconic writers Harry Vanda and George Young, known as Vanda & Young. Yirrkala is a small community in East Arnhem Region, Northern Territory, Australia, southeast of the large mining town of Nhulunbuy, on the Gove Peninsula in Arnhem Land. Triple J is an Australian government-funded national radio station founded in 1975 as a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
