Mikhail Borisovich Gavrilov
Mikhail Gavrilov (; ; born 29 December 1926 – 18 July 2014) was a Soviet writer and poet of Mountain Jew descent. He wrote in Judeo-Tat and Russian. Mikhail Gavrilov held the title of Honored Worker of Culture of Dagestan. Biography Gavrilov was born in the city Derbent, Dagestan ASSR, USSR. His father Boris Gavrilov (1908–1990) was a poet and dramatist. Since the beginning of the World War II, Gavrilov worked as a locksmith's apprentice, a 4-grade locksmith, then a 4-grade turner at the Derbent cannery. In 1944 he voluntarily joined the Red Army. After Gavrilov graduated from the school of junior aviation specialists, he served as a fighter armament master in the 26th reserve aviation regiment, then in the 117th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, he supported the Yak-3 fighter. Derbent
Derbent, also historically known as Darband, or Derbend, is the southernmost city in Russia. Mountain Jews are the Mizrahi Jews, Mizrahi Jewish subgroup of the eastern and northern Caucasus, mainly Azerbaijan, and various republics in the Russian Federation: Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagestan, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Kabardino-Balkaria. Judeo-Tat Poets
Judeo-Tat or Juhuri (, , ) is a Judeo-Persian dialect and the traditional language spoken by the Mountain Jews in the eastern Caucasus Mountains, especially Azerbaijan, parts of Russia and today in Israel. It belongs to the southwestern group of the Iranian division of the Indo-European languages, albeit with heavy influence from Hebrew. The words ''Juhuri'' and ''Juhuro'' translate as "Jewish" and "Jews". The Iranic Tat language is spoken by the Muslim Tats of Azerbaijan, a group to which the Mountain Jews were mistakenly considered to belong during the era of Soviet historiography though the languages probably originated in the same region of the Persian Empire.
