Midsommar (film)
''Midsommar'' is a 2019 folk horror film written and directed by Ari Aster. It stars Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor as an American couple who are drawn into a violent cult in rural Sweden. Supporting actors include William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Ellora Torchia, Archie Madekwe, and Will Poulter. A co-production between the United States and Sweden, ''Midsommar'' was initially pitched to Aster as a straightforward slasher film set among Swedish cultists. While elements of the original concept remain in the final product, the finished film focuses on a deteriorating relationship inspired by a difficult breakup experienced by Aster himself. ''Midsommer'' (English: ''Midsummer'') is a 2003 psychological horror film directed by Carsten Myllerup and written by Rasmus Heisterberg. The story revolves around a group of Danish students who celebrate their graduation in a Swedish forest, when they encounter a supernatural presence seemingly connected to a friend who recently committed suicide. ''Midsommar (Original Motion Picture Score)'' is the soundtrack to the 2019 film of the same name. It contains the instrumental score for the film, written, composed and produced by electronic and industrial musician The Haxan Cloak, who was credited under his real name Bobby Krlic. Krlic researched various elements related to traditional folk from Nordic countries and experimented with various instrumentation, from traditional orchestra to electronic music. The album was released by Milan Records on July 5, 2019, with a vinyl edition later followed on September. It received critical acclaim and has been considered as one of the best soundtracks of the decade.
