Midlands, Zimbabwe
Midlands is a province of Zimbabwe. It has an area of and a population of 1,614,941 (2012). It is home to various peoples. Located at a central point in the country, it contains speakers of Shona, Ndebele, Tswana, Sotho and Chewa, as well as of various other languages. Gweru, the third-largest city in Zimbabwe, is the capital of the province. Midlands Province contains Kwekwe, a city of considerable mining and manufacturing industries, in which also the Sable Chemicals Trust maintains a presence. Geography Districts Midlands Provinces is divided into eight districts: * Chirumhanzu * Gokwe North * Gokwe South * Gweru * Kwekwe * Mberengwa * Shurugwi * Zvishavane Local government The Provincial Administrator oversees all eight districts in the province, each district having its own district administrator. Provinces Of Zimbabwe
Provinces are constituent political entities of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe currently has ten provinces, two of which are cities with provincial status. Zimbabwe is a unitary state, and its provinces exercise only the powers that the central government chooses to delegate. Provinces are divided into districts, which are divided into wards. The Constitution of Zimbabwe delineates provincial governance and powers. After constitutional amendments in 1988, provinces were administered by a governor directly appointed by the President of Zimbabwe. Since the 2013 constitutional changes, there are technically no longer provincial governors, though in practice they remain in place as Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs. Gokwe North District
Gokwe North District is the northern of two administrative districts in the Gokwe region of the Midlands province of Zimbabwe. Its administrative seat is Nembudziya. There are 36 wards under Gokwe North Rural District Council (GNRDC) evenly distributed in 4 constituencies. Nembudziya was a small growth point established due to the cotton farming activities as the majority of people in the area earn their living through agricultural activities. Chief Jahane, is one of the key notable traditional individual within the region. Copper Queen (Sanyati) mine is located in ward 22. Zenda mine is also found in ward 22. Vungu RDC
Vungu Rural District Council is a local government arm overseeing the Gweru Rural District. It was created in terms of the Zimbabwe Rural District Councils Act; Chapter 29.13. Its capital is Gweru in Zimbabwe. Vungu Rural District Council is literally Gweru Rural District Council taking care of the rural district with Gweru Municipality taking care of the urban district. It comprises two parliamentary constituencies, Chiwundura (eight wards) and Vungu (eleven wards) while Gweru Municipality comprises Gweru Urban and Mkoba metropolitan constituencies. Chiwundura is east of the Harare-Bulawayo Highway and Vungu is on the west side of the highway. Takawira RDC
Takawira Rural District Council is rural local authority created under the Rural District Councils Act Chapter 29.13 as provided by the constitution. It is bestored with wide ranging administrative and legislative powers over their respective jurisdictions through this Act. It is Chirumhanzu Rural District authority. Chirumhanzu District is rural with Mvuma being the only urban setup in the District. Background Chirumanzu Rural District Council was established through Proclamation No. 1 of 1993 which amalgamated Takawira District Council and Charter Rural Council and established new boundaries for the district. Chirumhanzu Rural District Council has the communal area, the resettlement area and three urban areas, Mvuma, Lalapanzi and Charandura under its jurisdiction. Runde Rural District Council is Zvishavane Rural District local government arm taking care of the rural district while Zvishavane Town Council administers the urban district. Mberengwa Rural District Council is the rural district local authority over Mberengwa District. Zvishavane District
Zvishavane District is one of the eight districts in Midlands Province of Zimbabwe. It has Mberengwa District to the south and Shurugwi District to the north. Its capital is Zvishavane town. Economy Zvishavane District is home of Zvishavane Town which developed from an asbestos mine compound into a town. See Shabanie Mashaba Mine. It is also home to Murowa Diamond Mine located in Mazvihwa, 40 km from Zvishavane Town. Shurugwi District
Shurugwi District is located in Midlands Province, southern Zimbabwe. Background It is an important centre for gold, platinum and chrome mining, but it is perhaps best known as the home district of the former Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Douglas Smith who owned a farm near Gwenoro Dam. Its principal town is also called Shurugwi. It is located about 30 kilometres from the Midlands Provincial capital Gweru. Shurugwi District encompasses much of the rural areas of Nhema and some parts of Chivi. The district has seen a resurgence of mining activities after the discovery of platinum at Unki which lies a few kilometres just after the Wolfshall Pass (Boterekwa). Mberengwa is a district in Midlands province in Zimbabwe. The district is now divided into sub-districts: Mberengwa North, East, West and South. It is bounded by Gwanda in Mberengwa west, and by Zvishavane in its northern zone, to the south it stretches to Neshuro, Chikombedzi and bounded by Manyuchi dam.
