Mid-State 6 Conference
The Mid-State 6 Conference was a high school athletics conference in central Illinois, made up of the high schools in Peoria, Illinois plus various other schools over the course of its existence. It existed for several decades. Previous names included MidState 8 and MidState 9 in the 1960s, and Mid-State 10 in the 1980s and 1990s. , the only schools remaining were in the city of Peoria: Peoria Notre Dame and the three general public high schools Manual, Peoria (Central), and Richwoods. Those schools were joined the Big 12 Conference in 2014. History After IVC High School and Quincy Notre Dame left the Mid-State 6, a merger with the Western Big 6 Conference was set to begin in 2013 with football. Quincy Notre Dame High School is a private, Roman Catholic co-educational high school in Quincy, Illinois, United States, founded in 1867, serving upper school students in grades 9- 12. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. The curriculum is college preparatory. East Peoria Community High School is a four-year public high school located in East Peoria, Illinois, and is the only school of East Peoria Community High School District 309. Bergan High School was a Catholic high school in Peoria, Illinois. It was founded in 1964 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peoria in what was then the northern part of the city. The school was named after Archbishop of Omaha Gerald Thomas Bergan, a Peoria native. Peoria already had Catholic high schools at the time in Spalding Institute and the Academy of Our Lady High School, located near downtown Peoria. The school was originally run by the Christian Brothers, but they left the school in 1979. Monsignor Steven Rohlfs, later rector of Mount St. Mary's Seminary, served as chaplain of the high school after their departure. In 1988, Bergan merged in Academy of Our Lady/Spalding Institute and became Peoria Notre Dame High School. Academy Of Our Lady/Spalding Institute
Academy of Our Lady and Spalding Institute were Catholic high schools across the street from each other in downtown Peoria, Illinois. The Academy (AOL), a girls' school, traced its lineage back to 1863. The Spalding Institute (SI), the boys' school, was founded in 1899 by the Franciscan Brothers of Mountbellew, Ireland, at the invitation of John Lancaster Spalding, the first Bishop of Peoria. It was one of the communities which left that religious congregation to split off and become part of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis of Penance, based in Rome, Italy. The schools merged into one co-educational school, Academy of Our Lady/Spalding Institute in 1973.
