Mick Gill
Michael Gill (22 September 1899 – 21 September 1980) was an Irish hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Ballinderreen GAA, Ballinderreen and Garda GAA, Garda, and also lined out at inter-county level with Galway GAA, Galway and Dublin GAA, Dublin. Gill is the only player to win two All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland SHC medals in a single year. Career Gill first played hurling at club level with the Ballinderreen GAA, Ballinderreen club in County Galway, south Galway. His performances for the club resulted in a call-up to the Galway senior hurling team and he made his debut in the 1922 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship# All-Ireland semi-final, 1922 All-Ireland semi-final defeat by Tipperary GAA, Tipperary. Ballinderreen GAA
Ballinderreen GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballinderreen, County Galway, Ireland. The club was founded in 1884. The parish already was deeply rooted in hurling before the foundation of the GAA. The club is situated in South Galway, in the parish of Ballinderreen. The club has produced a number of inter-county hurlers throughout the years, several of whom have gone on to win All Ireland medals with Galway. History The club has little success in terms of senior championship silverware, but it has been successful in juvenile age groups, winning several underage championships. Dublin Senior Hurling Team
The Dublin county hurling team represents Dublin in hurling and is governed by Dublin GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship and the National Hurling League. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into five divisions, with seven teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Tailteann Games (Irish Free State)
The Tailteann Games or Aonach Tailteann was an Irish sporting and cultural festival held in the Irish Free State in 1924, 1928, and 1932. It was intended as a modern revival of the Tailteann Games held from legendary times until the Norman invasion of Ireland; as such it drew inspiration from the Modern Olympics revival of the Ancient Olympics. Croke Park, the Dublin headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association, was the venue for the opening ceremony and many of the sports events, which were open to people of Irish birth or ancestry. The Tailteann Games were held shortly after the Summer Olympics, such that athletes participating in Paris 1924 and Amsterdam 1928 came to compete. Ireland National Hurling Team
The Ireland national hurling team is a representative team for the island of Ireland in the hybrid sport of composite rules shinty–hurling. The team dates from 1924 when Ireland competed at the Aonach Tailteann against national hurling teams from several countries. However, at present the only team it plays is the Scotland national shinty team, on an annual basis in the Shinty–Hurling International Series. The team comprises a mixture of hurlers who compete in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, as well as players of county teams competing in the Christy Ring and Nicky Rackard Cups. The Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) () or Cork GAA is one of the 32 County board (Gaelic games), county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Cork and the Cork county teams.
