Michael David Shapiro ( ) (born December 29, 1965) is an American actor. He is best known for voicing the G-Man and Barney Calhoun in the ''Half-Life'' video game series. Early life In 1987, Shapiro helped launch the Annex Theater and performed in many of their productions. For a time he lived in Seattle until moving to Brooklyn, New York in 2000. Career Michael Shapiro is most famous for voicing Barney Calhoun and the G-Man in all of the characters' appearances in the ''Half-Life'' series. Other video games in which he is credited as "Mike Shapiro" are '' Blood II: The Chosen'', '' Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories'' and '' Torin's Passage''. Michael W. Shapiro is an American computer programmer who worked in operating systems and storage at Sun Microsystems, Oracle Corporation, Oracle, and EMC Corporation, EMC. While working at Sun Microsystems, Shapiro developed pgrep, the Modular Debugger (MDB), DTrace, fault management and diagnosis, and other software for Sun's Solaris (operating system), Solaris operating system. The pgrep and pkill utilities Shapiro created are today found in every major Unix operating system, including Linux, BSD, and macOS, and are commonly used by system administrators and developers. Shapiro and the DTrace team received a Technology Innovation Award and Overall Gold Medal for Innovation for DTrace from ''The Wall Street Journal'' in 2006. Michael (Mendel) Shapiro (February 28, 1910 – September 29, 1986) was a Ukrainian-born British journalist and outspoken communist. In the late 1930s and during the 1940s he was active in tenants’ rights activities and became a Stepney councilor. He joined the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) in 1934 and in 1949 was sent to China. He became one of the Western long-term residents in Beijing, was involved in training journalists in the Xinhua News Agency and worked with the teams that translated Chairman Mao's works. Although he spent 5 years in Qincheng Prison during the Cultural Revolution he remained committed to the communist cause and after his release he spent the rest of his life in China. The Sands Hotel and Casino was a historic hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States, that operated from 1952 to 1996. Designed by architect Wayne McAllister, with a prominent high sign, the Sands was the seventh resort to open on the Strip. During its heyday, it hosted many famous entertainers of the day, most notably the Rat Pack and Jerry Lewis. The hotel was established in 1952 by Mack Kufferman, who bought the LaRue Restaurant which had opened a year earlier. The hotel was opened on December 15, 1952, as a casino and hotel with 200 rooms. The hotel rooms were divided into four two-story motel wings, each with fifty rooms, and named after famous race tracks. Crime bosses such as Doc Stacher and Meyer Lansky acquired shares in the hotel and attracted Frank Sinatra, who made his performing debut at Sands in October 1953.
