Michael Knight (Knight Rider)
Michael Knight is a fictional character and the protagonist of the 1980s television series ''Knight Rider'', played by David Hasselhoff. The character first appeared in the opening scenes as Michael Long, played by Larry Anderson in the beginning of the pilot. His last appearance was in the 2008 film ''Knight Rider''. Biography ''Knight Rider'' In the storyline of ''Knight Rider'', Michael Arthur Long was born on January 9, 1949, outside Los Angeles, California, and raised by a blue-collar working family. In the 1960s, Michael joined the Army, spending three years in counter-intelligence work in Vietnam. He was captured while on a mission. Michael escaped but suffered a serious injury that required brain surgery, and a metal plate was inserted into his skull. The first season of ''Knight Rider'', an American television series, debuted on September 26, 1982, and ended on May 6, 1983. It aired on NBC. The region 1 DVD was released on August 3, 2004. ''Knight Rider'' had a two-hour premiere on NBC, airing at 8PM on Sunday night. The show was put up against ''Dallas'', and would eventually move NBC out of third place in the network race. No other show had ever survived that time slot. The show eventually aired on Friday nights, and in December 1982 became the second-highest-rated show of its day; ''M*A*S*H'' was number 1. The show was renewed for a second season during the filming of "Short Notice". Season 1 The pilot episode featured Larry Anderson as Michael Long. John Keith Vernon (born Adolphus Raymondus Vernon Agopsowicz; February 24, 1932 February 1, 2005) was a Canadian actor. He made a career in Hollywood after achieving initial television stardom in Canada. Edward Mulhare (8 April 1923 – 24 May 1997) was an Irish actor whose career spanned five decades. He is best known for his starring roles in two television series, '' The Ghost & Mrs. Muir'' and ''Knight Rider''. Early life and career Mulhare, one of three brothers, was born at 22 Quaker Road, Cork City, County Cork, Ireland, to John and Catherine (née Keane) Mulhare. As a child, he received his education at St. Nessan's Christian Brothers School, and later North Monastery.
