Metaxyonycha Octosignata
''Metaxyonycha'' is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. Taxonomy ''Metaxyonycha'' was first named by Louis Alexandre Auguste Chevrolat in 1836, with the spelling "''Metazyonycha''", in Dejean's ''Catalogue of Coleoptera''. According to Bousquet and Bouchard in 2013, ''Metaxyonycha'' is an incorrect subsequent spelling of ''Metazyonycha''. However, because the subsequent spelling is in prevailing usage and is attributed to the original spelling's publication, "''Metaxyonycha''" is considered the correct spelling. In some publications for the Neotropical realm, ''Metaxyonycha'' is also known as "'' Colaspis''". This was because the Czech entomologist Jan BechynĂ© had synonymised ''Metaxyonycha'' with ''Colaspis'', after incorrectly assuming the two had the same type species, while splitting the species of ''Colaspis'' listed in the ''Coleopterorum Catalogus'' (a beetle catalog edited by Wilhelm Junk and Sigmund Schenkling) into a separate genus known as "''Maecola ... Émile Blanchard
Charles Émile Blanchard (6 March 1819 – 11 February 1900) was a French zoologist and entomologist. Career Blanchard was born in Paris. His father was an artist and naturalist and Émile began natural history very early in life. When he was 14 years old, Jean Victoire Audouin (1797—1841), allowed him access to the laboratory of the MusĂ©um national d'Histoire naturelle. In 1838, he became a technician or ''prĂ©parateu''r in this then, as now, famous institution. In 1841, he became assistant-naturalist. He accompanied Henri Milne-Edwards (1800—1885) and Jean Louis Armand de Quatrefages de Breau (1810—1892) to Sicily on a marine zoology expedition. He published, in 1845 a ''Histoire des insectes'', or History of the insects and, in 1854—1856 ''Zoologie agricole'' or Agricultural Zoology. This last work is remarkable: it presents in a precise way the harmful or pest species and the damage they cause to various crop plants. This work was illustrated by his father. Bl ... He also took an interest in paleoentomology. Life and work Germar was born in Glauchau in the Electorate of Saxony where his father was a merchant. His two older and a younger brother went to study trade but Ernst went to a grammar school in Meiningen at the age of twelve under the care of Schaubach, a relative of his father.
