Merseyrail
Merseyrail is a commuter rail network which serves Merseyside and adjacent areas of Cheshire and Lancashire in the North West England, North West of England. Merseyrail serves 69 Railway station, stations, 67 of which it manages, across two lines – the Northern line (Merseyrail), Northern line and the Wirral line. The network uses electrified lines having of routes, of which are underground. Since January 2023, Merseyrail commenced replacing its train fleet, withdrawing the British Rail Class 507, Class 507 and British Rail Class 508, 508 trains and introducing 53 new British Rail Class 777, Class 777 trains. The network carried 28.3 million passengers in the 2023/2024 statistical period. British Rail Class 507
The British Rail Class 507 electric multiple unit (EMU) passenger trains were built by British Rail Engineering Limited at Holgate Road carriage works in two batches from 1978 to 1980. They are a variant of British Rail's standard 1972 design for suburban EMUs derived from PEP stock, which eventually encompassed 755 vehicles over five classes ( 313, 314, 315, 507 and 508). They worked on the Merseyrail network from new until their retirement in November 2024. Between 2002 and 2005, all units were refurbished by Alstom's Eastleigh Works. Following the withdrawal of the Class 313 fleet in 2023, the Class 507 fleet were the oldest units operating on the mainline rail network in Great Britain until their withdrawal in 2024. British Rail Class 777
The British Rail Class 777 ''METRO'' is a class of electric multiple unit passenger trains currently being delivered by the Switzerland, Swiss rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail, being used on the Merseyrail network in the Liverpool City Region and adjacent areas of Cheshire and Lancashire. The trains have the ability to operate on the third rail-powered sections of the network, with some units carrying onboard batteries to allow use on unpowered track. British Rail Class 508
The British Rail Class 508 (Southern Railway multiple unit numbering and classification, 4PER) electric multiple unit (EMU) passenger trains were built by British Rail Engineering Limited, at Holgate Road carriage works, York, in 1979 and 1980. City Line (Merseytravel)
The City Line (sometimes City Lines) is the brand name used by Merseytravel on commuter rail services connecting the Liverpool City Region (Merseyside and Halton) with Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Blackpool and Lancashire starting eastwards from the mainline platforms of Liverpool Lime Street railway station. The term covers most of the Liverpool City Region sections of the Crewe–Liverpool line, the two Liverpool–Manchester lines and the Liverpool–Wigan line, with services continuing to Warrington, Chester via Runcorn and Blackpool and Preston via Wigan. The Northern line is one of two Commuter rail in the United Kingdom, commuter rail routes operated by Merseyrail and centred on Merseyside, England, the other being the Wirral line. Merseytravel is a public transport body and the passenger transport executive of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority responsible for delivering Public transport and other transport functions in the Liverpool City Region. It was originally established on 1 December 1969 as the Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive. In July 2024, it was announced it is to be rebranded as Transport for Liverpool City Region (TfLCR) in the future. Governance The Merseyside Passenger Transport Authority and Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive were established as a result of the Transport Act 1968. Kirkby Railway Station
Kirkby railway station is situated in Kirkby, Merseyside, England. It is located 7.5 miles (12 km) north-east of Liverpool Central and is on the Headbolt Lane branch of Merseyrail's Northern Line.
