Alfred Musgrave Merriweather CBE, (19 August 1918 – 8 October 1999) was a Scottish missionary in Botswana, who was a member of the National Assembly of Botswana and its first Speaker. Major "Big Maceo" Merriweather (March 31, 1905 – February 23, 1953) was an American pianist and blues singer. He was mainly active in Chicago through the 1940s. Brian Merriweather (born March 13, 1978) is an American former basketball player. He played professionally for Basket Rimini in Italy, but he is best known for his collegiate career at the University of Texas–Pan American (UTPA) between 1998–99 and 2000–01. Merriweather, a 6'3" shooting guard from Evansville, Indiana, played for one season for Cumberlands College and then transferred to UTPA for his final three seasons. As a sophomore he averaged 23.7 point per game (ppg), as a junior he averaged 20.4 ppg, and as a senior he averaged 18.1 ppg; his career average was 20.7 ppg. Daniel Paul Merriweather (born 17 February 1982) is an Australian R&B singer-songwriter and record producer. Merriweather's debut solo album, '' Love & War'', was released in June 2009. It entered the UK Albums Chart at number two. It was preceded by two singles, "Change" and " Red", which both made the top 10 on the related singles chart. Merriweather has won two ARIA Music Awards, Best Urban Release in 2005 for "She's Got Me" and Best Male Artist in 2009 for ''Love & War''. Biography Lester Julian Merriweather was born in 1978 in Memphis, Tennessee, into an African-American family. He received a BA degree in 2000 from Jackson State University; and a MFA degree in 2002 from Memphis College of Art. Merriweather also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2002. In response to a lack of support and spaces for Black artists in Memphis, Merriweather, working alongside Frank D. Merriweather Post Pavilion is an outdoor concert venue located in the planned community of Columbia, Maryland.
