Arthur Clarey
Reynold Arthur Clarey (15 March 1897 – 9 May 1972) was an Australian politician. Born in South Yarra to estate agent Francis William Clarey and Catherine Lawson (his half-brother Percy would also go on to be a prominent politician and unionist), Arthur attended Flemington State School, Melbourne High School and Melbourne University, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce. He was employed as a clerk with the Victorian Public Service from 1913 to 1920 and with BHP from 1920 to 1947. On 23 September 1940 he married Irene Mary Leech, who died in 1957; he remarried on 1 July 1958 Doris Jane McGinnis, ''née'' Blythe. Clarey joined the Labor Party in 1932, and was later president of the Clerks' Union. Val Doube
Valentine Joseph Doube (3 January 1915 – 18 January 1988) was an Australian politician. Born in Brighton to hat maker Francis William Robert Doube and Honora Fitzgerald, Doube was educated at St James' School in Gardenvale before studying at Melbourne University, receiving a Diploma of Physical Education in 1940. He taught physical education in primary schools from 1933 until 1941, when he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. On 17 May 1941 he married Freda May Scott, with whom he had three sons. In 1943 he transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force, where he remained until the end of the war. In 1945, the year he joined the Labor Party, Doube began work at the Department of Immigration. Bill Divers
William Thomas George Divers (1 September 1896 – 29 June 1978) was an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1958 to 1970. He was born in Collingwood to brushmaker William Clinton Divers and Annie May Cozens. He attended the local state school and was a child actor until 1910. From 1910 to 1914 he was in the merchant navy; he served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1914 to 1918 during World War I and then returned to the merchant navy until 1920. He was a long-serving official in the Municipal Employees Union from the 1920s, initially as an organiser (1925–1937) and industrial officer (1937–1946). During the 1930s, he clashed with the Australian Workers' Union over their handling of pay disputes for municipal employees. Tom Darcy (Australian Politician)
Thomas Anthony Darcy (18 May 1893 – 27 December 1979) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1958 to 1970, representing the electorate of Polwarth. He was Minister of Water Supply and Minister of Mines in the Bolte government from 1964 to 1967. Darcy was born at Murroon, near Birregurra. He was educated at Murroon State School, and became a farmer and grazier there after leaving school. He served for four years overseas in World War I, in Syria with the 4th Light Horse Regiment, and was a company commander of the Volunteer Defence Corps' 19th battalion in World War II. In his industry, he served as Victorian state president and national vice-president of the Australian Primary Producers Union, and was an employers' representative for the Pastoral and Agricultural Wages Board. George Roy Crick (3 April 1904 – 19 August 1966) was an Australian politician. He was born at Nurcoung to grazier George Arnold Crick and Mary Cousen Keeping. He attended school at Sunshine and became a carpenter. On 26 June 1927 he married Gladys Sophie Day, with whom he had two children. From 1942 he was an official with the Sheetmetal Workers' Union, and also secretary of the Sunshine branch of the Labor Party. During World War II he was a sergeant in the Volunteer Defence Corps. Electoral District Of Benalla
Benalla was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. The electorate covered a rural area of 17,120 km², and included the towns of Benalla, Bright, Eildon, Euroa, Mansfield, Mount Beauty, Murchison, Myrtleford, Nagambie and Violet Town. The electorate had a population of 47,675 as of the 2006 census, with 36,987 enrolled electors in the 2010 state election. The seat was created in 1904. Historically a staunchly conservative rural district, it was held by conservative members for most of its history.
