''Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons'', often shortened to ''Captain Scarlet'', is a British science fiction television series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and filmed by their production company Century 21 for ITC Entertainment. It is the sixth Anderson series to be filmed using a form of electronic marionette puppetry dubbed "Supermarionation" combined with scale model special effects. Running to thirty-two 25-minute episodes, it was first broadcast on ITV regional franchises between 1967 and 1968 and has since aired in more than 40 other countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Science fiction first appeared in television programming in the late 1930s, during what is called the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Special effects and other production techniques allow creators to present a living visual image of an imaginary world not limited by the constraints of reality. Reg Hill
Reginald Eric Hill (16 May 1914 – 31 October 1999) was an English model-maker, art director, producer, and freelance storyboard artist. He is most prominently associated with the work of Gerry Anderson. Early life Born on 16 May 1914, Hill started his working life during the 1930s in the display department of a London wholesale grocer before progressing to a role of advertising designer. He obtained a private pilot's licence in June 1939. Hill served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, spending time at Benson in Oxfordshire as an airframe fitter instructor. Post-war After returning to England, Hill joined National Interest Picture Productions as a designer for British Army, RAF and other government-made films, working as a model maker and animator. ''Joe 90'' is a British science fiction television series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and filmed by their production company, Century 21, for ITC Entertainment. It follows the exploits of nine-year-old schoolboy Joe McClaine, who becomes a spy after his adoptive father invents a device capable of recording expert knowledge and experience and transferring it to another human brain. Armed with the skills of the world's top academic and military minds, Joe is recruited by the World Intelligence Network (WIN) as its "Most Special Agent". ''Thunderbirds'' is a British science fiction television series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, filmed by their production company AP Films (APF) and distributed by ITC Entertainment. Captain Scarlet (character)
Captain Scarlet is the fictional main character in the Supermarionation science fiction television series ''Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons'' and its animated remake, '' New Captain Scarlet''. Background Commentators consider the original Captain Scarlet's appearance to be based on either Cary Grant, Roger Moore, or the character's voice actor, Francis Matthews. Scarlet's voice is widely acknowledged to be an imitation of Grant's Mid-Atlantic accent. Matthews wrote that he was hired to voice Captain Scarlet because series co-creator Gerry Anderson "had heard my Cary Grant impression on Pete Murray's adio show''Open House'' and simply wanted that sound". Anderson, however, said that the impression was Matthews's own choice, and that while it was not what had been intended for Captain Scarlet, the production was happy for him to use it. Mysteron
The Mysterons are a fictional race of extraterrestrials and the antagonists in the 1960s British Supermarionation television series ''Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons'' (1967–68) and its 2005 animated remake, ''New Captain Scarlet''. The Mysterons in the series are the remnants of the original Mysteron race: alien beings that originated in a galaxy other than the Milky Way and maintained a colony on Mars. They are symbolised by ubiquitous, projected green rings of light and the deep bass voice of their first human convert, Captain Black.
