Melbourne Knights Football Club is an Australian professional Association football, soccer club based in the suburb of Sunshine North, Victoria, Sunshine North, Melbourne. The club currently competes in the National Premier Leagues Victoria, the second-tier of the Australian soccer league system under the A-League. It is one of the most successful soccer clubs in Australia, being a two-time championship and four-time premiership winner in the now defunct National Soccer League (NSL). The club is based in the western suburbs of Melbourne and draws much of its support from the Croatian Australian community. The club's identification with its Croatian roots remains strong. It is a regular participant in the Australian-Croatian Soccer Tournament. Knights Stadium (Melbourne)
Tompsett Stadium (formerly known as Knights Stadium due to naming rights) is an Australian association football stadium in Sunshine North, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. Built in 1989, it is used by the Melbourne Knights FC, Melbourne Knights as a home ground in the NPL Victoria competition, and previously in the National Soccer League (NSL). The Knights were one of only a handful of clubs in the NSL to actually own their home ground. The land at Somers Street, which had been a Village Cinemas, Village drive through cinema, was bought and developed largely through donations and volunteer work from the local Croatian community. The idea was that if 1000 people each donated $300 that would equal $300,000, more than enough to purchase the land. The stadium holds approximately 15,000 people. Olympic Park Stadium (Melbourne)
Olympic Park Stadium was a multi-purpose outdoor stadium located on Olympic Boulevard in inner Melbourne, Australia. The stadium was built as an athletics training venue for the 1956 Olympics, a short distance from the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which served as the Olympic Stadium. Over the years it was the home of rugby league side, Melbourne Storm and the A-League team, Melbourne Victory; throughout its life the stadium played host to athletics. Olympic Park Stadium was located in Olympic Park, which is part of the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct. Olympic Park Stadium was demolished in 2012, and replaced with an Australian rules football ground. Footscray Jugoslav United Soccer Team, commonly referred to as J.U.S.T, Footscray or simply JUST, was an association football club from Melbourne, Australia, Melbourne, Australia. Billy Vojtek
William Vojtek (born 29 September 1943) is a retired soccer player. He migrated from Croatia to Australia with his family as a child in 1956 and started playing for Essendon Juniors before representing Victoria from the under 13s to under 18s. Vojtek played the majority of his career with Croatia (Melbourne) and is now the coach of the Melbourne Knights U/16 squad located in Sunshine Melbourne. In 2010 Vojtek was presented with recognition of 50 years of service to the Melbourne Knights. Vojtek was selected in the Melbourne Knights Team of the Century as the number 9, the team's other striker was Mark Viduka. Steve Horvat
Steven Horvat (born 14 March 1971) is an Australian former professional soccer player. Club career A graduate of the Australian Institute of Sport, Horvat began his career with Melbourne Croatia. He later played with Sunshine George Cross, North Geelong Warriors, the Melbourne Knights (for whom he won the Joe Marston Medal), Hajduk Split, Crystal Palace (although he didn't make a league appearance) and Carlton. He retired in March 2003 at the age of 32. Horvat made a total of 96 appearances in the National Soccer League. Josip "Joe" Šimunić (; born 18 February 1978) is a retired footballer and current president of NK Rudeš. Born in Australia to Bosnian Croat parents, Šimunić started his career at Melbourne Knights then moved to Germany where he spent 14 seasons in the Bundesliga with Hamburger SV, Hertha BSC and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim before finishing his career in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb. Frank Jurić
Frank Juric (, ; born 28 October 1973) is an Australian former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Born in Melbourne, Juric began his professional career in the former Australian national league with Melbourne Knights, where he won two league titles, before moving to the newly formed Collingwood Warriors (also based in Melbourne). The club struggled financially though and was unable to go on beyond this solitary season, in which they finished second bottom. The goalkeeper took this as his cue to move to Europe, although the transfer was a protracted affair, as Collingwood Warriors – no longer technically in existence – still demanded a fee from Fortuna Düsseldorf. Daniele Amadeo Tiatto (born 22 May 1973) is an Australian former soccer player who played as a winger and left back. He notably played for Manchester City joining the club in 1998 whilst the club were playing in the third level of English football, he was promoted three times with City in his six years with the club and would go on to play in the Premier League for them.
