Mark Viduka
Mark Antony Viduka ( ; born 9 October 1975) is an Australian former Association football, football player who played as a centre forward. Viduka captained the Australia men's national soccer team, Australia national team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, reaching the Round of 16, which remains their joint-best performance to date. During his 16-year professional career, Viduka mostly played abroad for clubs in Croatia, Scotland and England. His four UEFA Champions League goals are the most scored in the competition by an Australian player. 1997–98 UEFA Cup
The 1997–98 UEFA Cup was won by Internazionale in an all-Italian final against Lazio. It was their third title in eight years in the competition. It was the first instance of the UEFA Cup final being a one-game contest at a neutral stadium, having previously being decided over two legs with each team having one home game. Mansion Stadium
Tompsett Stadium (formerly known as Knights Stadium due to naming rights) is an Australian association football stadium in Sunshine North, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. Built in 1989, it is used by the Melbourne Knights as a home ground in the NPL Victoria competition, and previously in the National Soccer League (NSL). The Knights were one of only a handful of clubs in the NSL to actually own their home ground. The land at Somers Street, which had been a Village drive through cinema, was bought and developed largely through donations and volunteer work from the local Croatian community. The idea was that if 1000 people each donated $300 that would equal $300,000, more than enough to purchase the land. The stadium holds approximately 15,000 people. The Johnny Warren Medal is awarded to the best player of the Australian national soccer club competition. It was first awarded in the National Soccer League in 1990, and upon the NSL's demise in November 2004, was carried forward into the new national club competition, the A-League. It is named after former Australia national soccer team captain and tireless promoter of soccer in Australia, Johnny Warren. The medal was previously determined by the votes of current players after rounds 9, 18 and 27. National Soccer League
The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association.
