Medway Power Station
Medway Power Station is a 735 megawatts gas-fired combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station on the Isle of Grain in Kent adjacent to the River Medway, about 44 miles east of London. It started to supply electricity to the national grid in 1995. History Medway Power Limited (MPL) was incorporated in September 1990. It is a joint venture company originally comprising Arlington, Virginia-based AES Corporation (trading as AES Electric) (25%) and the RECs SEEBOARD (37.5%) and Southern Electric (37.5%) (became SSE in 1998). In April 1992 MPL awarded a design, procurement and construction contract to a consortium of Europower Development Ltd and TVB Power Ltd. The contract called for a turnkey 660 MW combined cycle electricity generating plant, deliverable by 1 August 1995. Isle of Grain (Old English ''Greon'', meaning gravel) is a village and the easternmost point of the Hoo Peninsula within the unitary authority, district of Medway in Kent, south-east England. Once an island and now forming part of the peninsula, the area is almost all marshland and is a major habitat for diverse wetland birds. Damhead Creek Power Station
Damhead Creek power station is a 792 MWe gas-fired power station in Kent, England, on the Hoo Peninsula, It is near the site of the decommissioned Kingsnorth power station. The plant entered service in February 2001. Ownership Entergy, an American power firm, commissioned the plant. It was built by Raytheon Engineers and Constructor and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, who provided the gas turbine equipment. The company trades as Damhead Creek Ltd. On 2 June 2004, the plant was bought by Scottish Power for £317 million. The plant was purchased and operated by Drax Generation Enterprise Ltd in 2018 before being sold to Vitol's VPI Holding in December 2020. Specification Natural gas is brought to Damhead Creek via a 3 km pipeline from the national transmission system. Seabank Power Station is a 1,140 MW gas-fired power station at Hallen Marsh in Bristol, England. It is situated beside the A403 road and Severn Estuary, just north of Avonmouth and south of Severn Beach, close to the boundary with South Gloucestershire. It is next to the former Terra Nitrogen Severnside fertiliser works, which was closed by Growhow UK in January 2008. The £435million plant is run as Seabank Power Ltd. Heat Recovery Steam Generator
A heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) is a heat exchanger that recovers heat from a hot gas stream, such as a combustion turbine or other waste gas stream. It produces steam that can be used in a process (cogeneration) or used to drive a steam turbine (combined cycle). Thamesport
London Thamesport (formerly just "Thamesport") was a small container seaport on the River Medway, serving the North Sea. It is located on the Isle of Grain, in the Medway unitary authority district of the English county of Kent. History Kent Oil Refinery In 1953, the Anglo-Persian Oil Company opened a large oil refinery, Kent Refinery, on the south of the Isle of Grain. A fuel depot with an attached port had existed there since 1928. From 1953, over ten million tons of crude oil were processed annually on the site. This led to the establishment of the oil-fired power station at Grain and dual-fuel capable Kingsnorth. In practice, Kingsnorth used coal. It was also the name of an oil-fired, now demolished, 1,320MW power station in operation from 1979 to 2012.
