Grain Power Station
Grain Power Station is a operational CCGT power station in Kent, England, owned by Uniper (formerly E.ON UK). It was also the name of an oil-fired, now demolished, 1,320MW power station in operation from 1979 to 2012. Oil-fired power station Grain power station was built on a site for the nationalised Central Electricity Generating Board. The architects were Farmer & Dark with Donald Rudd and Partners. It was built by several contractors including John Laing Construction (Civils), the Cleveland Bridge Company (steel frame and cladding), N. G. Bailey (electrical), Babcock & Wilcox (boilers) and GEC Turbine Generators Ltd (steam turbines). The site was selected in 1971 and construction had begun by 1975. The station became operational in 1979. Kent Refinery
The BP Refinery (Kent) was an oil refinery on the Isle of Grain in Kent. It was commissioned in 1953 and had a maximum processing capacity of 11 million tonnes of crude oil per year. It was decommissioned in August 1982. History Background The oil industry was first established on the Isle of Grain in 1908 when, in association with the naval dockyard at Sheerness, the Admiralty constructed an oil storage and ship refuelling depot on the Medway. Grain LNG Terminal is a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal on the Isle of Grain, 37 miles (60 km) east of London. It has facilities for the offloading and reloading of LNG from ships at two jetties on the River Medway; for storing and blending LNG; for truck loading; and regasifying and blending natural gas to meet UK specifications. The terminal can handle up to 15 million tonnes per annum of LNG, has a storage capacity for one million cubic metres of LNG, and is able to regasify up to 645 GWh per day (58 million cubic metres per day) for delivery into the high pressure gas National Transmission System (NTS). A combined cycle power plant is an assembly of heat engines that work in tandem from the same source of heat, converting it into mechanical energy. On land, when used to make electricity the most common type is called a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant, which is a kind of gas-fired power plant.
