''Maya Awards'' () is an annual Indonesian film awards initiated in 2012 by Indonesian online film enthusiasts who were active on Twitter. 1st Annual Maya Awards, The first annual Maya Awards was held on December 15, 2012 in Jakarta. It has been cited by local media outlets as the "Indonesian Golden Globe Award, Golden Globe" with the annual Indonesian Film Festival, Citra Awards of Indonesian Film Festival being the Indonesian equivalent of Academy Awards. The nominations and winners of the awards are selected by a panel of judges consisting of Indonesian film critics and filmmakers, including Film director, directors, actors, and actresses. The cinema of Indonesia refers to films produced domestically in Indonesia. The statutory corporation, statutory Indonesian Film Board, or BPI, defines Indonesian films as "movies that are made by or using Indonesian resources whose Intellectual property, Intellectual Property Right is owned either entirely or partly by Indonesian citizen or Indonesian legal entity". Cinema in Indonesia dates back to the early 1900s. Until the 1920s, most cinemas in Indonesia were created by foreign studios, mostly from Cinema of Europe, Europe and the Cinema of United States, United States, whose films would then be imported to the country. The 2015 Maya Awards (Indonesian: Piala Maya 2015) is an award ceremony honoring the best Indonesian films of 2015. The ceremony was held at Soehanna Hall, SCBD, South Jakarta, on December 19, 2015.
