Its name simply means "large", and it was given the name because it was the largest piece of land in the former parish of Llangyfelach. Description Mawr falls within the parliamentary constituency of Gower. It is bounded by the communities of Pontarddulais to the west; Llangyfelach and Morriston to the south; Clydach to the southeast; Pontardawe of Neath Port Talbot to the northeast; Betws to the north and Tycroes to the north west. For the purposes of community elections it is broken down into three polling districts: Garnswllt, Craigcefnparc and Felindre. Tycroes
Tycroes is a village in Carmarthenshire, Wales. As measured in the 2011 Census, the population of Tycroes electoral ward was 2,438 persons (50.5% male, 49.5% female). At the 2011 Census all the population was counted in Llanedi community. The built-up area with Capel Hendre had a population of 3,752. The village forms the westernmost fringe of the Amman valley and rests mainly on the anthracite coal measures, part of the South Wales coalfield. It straddles the A483 Swansea to Manchester Trunk road and has a linear village structure, having developed substantially along roads which meet at the centre of the village. The trunk road is in the main artery from north to south of the country and is connected to the M4 motorway network which affords transportation from mainland Europe to Ireland. Gower ( cy, Gŵyr) is a constituency created in 1885 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by one Member of Parliament (MP). Betws ('' en, Chapel house'') is a small village and community on the River Amman, some 15 miles north of Swansea, Wales; it is part of the ecclesiastical parish of ''Betws and Ammanford'', and the urban area of Ammanford. Craig Cefn Parc
Craig-cefn-parc is a village near Clydach, outside Swansea, Wales. It falls within the Mawr ward of Swansea. The name means "park ridge rock". Cwm Clydach RSPB nature reserve is located at the south of the village, near the New Inn Public House, at the boundary between Craig-cefn-parc and Clydach. Craig-cefn-parc is famous for its mining history with several large drift mines employing hundreds of men. In the heart of the Lower Clydach River (Cwm Clydach nature reserve) are some of the old coal houses, there is also a coal tram located in the centre of the village to commemorate its mining history. Craig Cefn Parc school was closed in 2019. A small memorial garden was created lower down in the village for a place to reflect and sit for a while. Felindre
Felindre is a rural village in southern Wales. Felindre is located in the far north of Swansea, in the electoral ward of Mawr. The nearby Lower Lliw Reservoirs are a popular venue for walking and fishing. The water mill in the village was working until the late 1960s, there was also an abattoir and a post office in the village. It has three shops. There is also a public house in the village, the Shepherds Inn. The primary school in the village was Welsh speaking and closed in 2019. Felindre works site In 1956, the Steel Company of Wales opened a tinplate works at Felindre to complement new facilities at Port Talbot and Trostre.
