Mauricio Báez Bridge
The Mauricio Báez Bridge is a Cable-stayed bridge near San Pedro de Macorís, located in the east of the Dominican Republic, around 40 km east of the capital city of Santo Domingo. It is one of the most modern bridges in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean. It replaces an old suspension bridge, which was called Puente Ramfis (Ramfis Bridge). The bridge's designer was the Italian engineer Mario de Miranda. San Pedro De Macorís
San Pedro de Macorís is a city and municipality (''municipio'') in the Dominican Republic. The capital of its eponymous province in the east region of the country, it is among the ten largest cities of the Dominican Republic. The city has approximately 217,000 inhabitants, when including the whole municipality. As a provincial capital, it houses the Universidad Central del Este. San Pedro de Macorís is also well known for producing professional baseball players at an exceptionally high per capita rate. Name The name San Pedro came before that of Macorís. Cable-stayed Bridge
A cable-stayed bridge has one or more ''towers'' (or ''pylons''), from which wire rope, cables support the bridge deck. A distinctive feature are the cables or wikt:stay#Etymology 3, stays, which run directly from the tower to the deck, normally forming a fan-like pattern or a series of parallel lines.
