Maura Johnston
Maura K. Johnston (born May 28, 1975) is a writer, editor and music critic. A member of Boston College's journalism faculty, she has written for ''Rolling Stone'', ''The Boston Globe'', ''Pitchfork'', ''The Awl'', ''The New York Times'', ''Spin'' and ''The Guardian''. Johnston was a founding editor of Gawker Media's Idolator, where she worked until November 2009. In April 2011, she became the music editor of ''The Village Voice'', holding that position until September 2012. In 2013, she launched the culture periodical ''Maura Magazine'', which was published by 29th Street Publishing through 2015. She is an adjunct professor at Boston College, which named her the inaugural Institute for Liberal Arts Journalism Fellow in 2013. Jason Kottke
Jason Kottke (born September 27, 1973) is an American blogger, graphic designer, and web designer known for his blog Kottke.org. He won a Lifetime Achievement Award as a blogger. Design work Kottke attended Coe College on scholarship in Iowa and eventually began a career in design. In 1999, he designed the Silkscreen typeface—since used by Adobe, MTV, and Volvo among others. Hicksville, New York
Hicksville is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The CDP's population was 43,869 at the time of the 2020 census. History Hamlet namesake Valentine Hicks was the son-in-law of abolitionist and Quaker preacher Elias Hicks, and eventual president of the Long Island Rail Road. He bought land in the village in 1834 and turned it into a station stop on the LIRR in 1837. Hicksville was founded accidentally when a financial depression brought the LIRR to a stop at Broadway, Hicksville. The station slowly grew and though it started as a train station, it turned into a hotel then a real estate deal, even becoming a depot for produce, particularly cucumbers for a Heinz Company plant. Speedy Ortiz is an American indie rock band from Northampton, Massachusetts, United States. Originally a solo project for founder Sadie Dupuis, from 2011 a full band incarnation has released three EPs and three LPs mostly on Carpark Records. As of 2022, the band consists of Dupuis, Audrey Zee Whitesides, Andy Molholt, and Joey Doubek. History Early years (2011–2012) The band originated in 2011 as Sadie Dupuis' solo project shortly after she moved to Northampton to work on her MFA. WNYC is an audio service brand, under the control of New York Public Radio, a non-profit organization.
