Matthias Ssekamaanya
Matthias Ssekamaanya (born 15 October 1936), is a Ugandan priest, who is the Bishop Emeritus of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lugazi, having been appointed to that position on 9 March 1985 and having retired as bishop on 4 November 2014. Early life and priesthood Ssekamaanya was born on 15 October 1936, in Kasolo Village, in present-day Mubende District in the Buganda Region of Uganda. He was ordained priest on 19 December 1965 at the Archdiocese of Kampala and severed as priest in Kampala Archdiocese, until 9 March 1985. As bishop He was appointed bishop on 9 March 1985, serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala and as Titular Bishop of Iziriana. Mubende District, Uganda
Mubende is a district in the Central Region of Uganda. The town of Mubende is the site of the district headquarters. The district was reduced in size in July 2005 with the creation of the Mityana District and reduced again in 2019 with the creation of Kassanda District. Uganda Martyrs
The Uganda Martyrs are a group of 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican converts to Christianity in the historical kingdom of Buganda, now part of Uganda, who were executed between 31 January 1885 and 27 January 1887. They were killed on orders of Mwanga II, the '' Kabaka'' (King) of Buganda. The deaths took place at a time when there was a three-way religious struggle for political influence at the Buganda royal court. The episode also occurred against the backdrop of the "Scramble for Africa" – the invasion, occupation, division, colonization and annexation of African territory by European powers. A few years after, the English Church Missionary Society used the deaths to enlist wider public support for the British acquisition of Uganda for the Empire.
