Matthew Moore
Matthew Moore is an American singer and songwriter. His biggest commercial success is the song " Space Captain", which was recorded by Joe Cocker (1970) and Barbra Streisand (on '' Barbra Joan Streisand'', 1971). Career Moore played in the group The Moon from 1967 to 1969, with whom he recorded two albums. The following year, his brother Daniel managed to put him touch with session musician Leon Russell. Russell liked his song "Space Captain" and invited Moore to join an upcoming US tour with Cocker, where he sang backing vocals. The tour was recorded and a version of the song was released on the live album '' Mad Dogs and Englishmen''. A different recording of the song was released as the B-side of Cocker's hit single, " The Letter". Later in the 1970s, Moore played in David Cassidy's band, and collaborated again with Russell. John Robert "Joe" Cocker (20 May 1944 – 22 December 2014) was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice and dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. Most of his best known singles were recordings of songs written by other song writers, though he composed a number of songs for most of his albums as well, often in conjunction with songwriting partner Chris Stainton. His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' " With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. ''Barbra Joan Streisand'' is the thirteenth studio album by Barbra Streisand, released in August 1971 on Columbia Records. It was her second consecutive album produced by Richard Perry and features backing work by members of the female band Fanny. Like the two previous studio albums, the singer continued to opt for a more contemporary repertoire, this time choosing three songs by Carole King, two by John Lennon, two by Burt Bacharach and Hal David in medley form, and one each by Laura Nyro and the trio Michel LeGrand, Marilyn Bergman and Alan Bergman. Daniel Moore (born 1941 in Walla Walla, Washington, U.S.) is an American musician, singer and songwriter. He co-wrote the song "My Maria" with B. W. Stevenson. Recorded by the latter, the song was a pop hit in 1973. Moore also wrote the song " Shambala", a song which was a hit for both B. W. Stevenson and Three Dog Night that same year. "My Maria" was also a country hit in 1996 when recorded by Brooks and Dunn. In addition, Moore has written songs for other artists, including Joe Cocker and Bonnie Raitt. ''Mad Dogs & Englishmen'' is a live album by Joe Cocker, released in 1970. The album's title is drawn from the 1931 Noël Coward Mad Dogs and Englishmen (song), song of the same name and Leon Russell's "Ballad of Mad Dogs and Englishmen". Only four songs of the 16 on the original album were drawn from his first two studio albums. Besides the contributions of bandmate and musical director Leon Russell, it draws equally from rock (the Rolling Stones, Traffic (band), Traffic, Bob Dylan, the Beatles) and soul (Ray Charles, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding). Lonely Planet is a travel guide book publisher. Founded in Australia in 1973, the company has printed over 150 million books. History Early years Lonely Planet was founded by married couple Maureen Wheeler, Maureen and Tony Wheeler. In 1972, they embarked on an overland trip through Europe and Asia to Australia, following the route of the Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition.
