Space Captain
Matthew Moore was an American singer and songwriter. His biggest commercial success is the song "Space Captain", which was recorded by Joe Cocker (1970) and Barbra Streisand (on '' Barbra Joan Streisand'', 1971). Career Moore played in the group The Moon from 1967 to 1969, with whom he recorded two albums. The following year, his brother Daniel managed to put him in touch with session musician Leon Russell. Russell liked his song "Space Captain" and invited Moore to join an upcoming US tour with Cocker, where he sang backing vocals. The tour was recorded and a version of the song was released on the live album '' Mad Dogs and Englishmen''. A different recording of the song was released as the B-side of Cocker's hit single, " The Letter". Later in the 1970s, Moore played in David Cassidy's band, and collaborated again with Russell. ''Barbra Joan Streisand'' is the thirteenth studio album by American singer Barbra Streisand, released in August 1971 on Columbia Records. It was her second consecutive album produced by Richard Perry and features backing work by members of the female band Fanny. Daniel Moore (musician)
Daniel Moore (born 1941) is an American musician, singer and songwriter. He co-wrote the song " My Maria" with B. W. Stevenson. Recorded by the latter, the song was a pop hit in 1973. Moore also wrote the song " Shambala", a song which was a hit for both B. W. Stevenson and Three Dog Night that same year. "My Maria" was also a country hit in 1996 when recorded by Brooks and Dunn. In addition, Moore has written songs for other artists, including Joe Cocker and Bonnie Raitt. In late 1975, he contributed backing vocals for the tracks on Bo Diddley's ''The 20th Anniversary of Rock 'n' Roll'' all-star album. Leon Russell (born Claude Russell Bridges; April 2, 1942 – November 13, 2016) was an American musician and songwriter who was involved with numerous bestselling records during his 60-year career that spanned multiple genres, including rock and roll, country, gospel, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, southern rock, blues rock, folk, surf and the Tulsa sound. ''Mad Dogs & Englishmen'' is a live album by Joe Cocker, released in 1970. The album's title is drawn from the 1931 Noël Coward song of the same name and Leon Russell's "Ballad of Mad Dogs and Englishmen". Only four songs of the 16 on the original album were drawn from his first two studio albums. Besides the contributions of bandmate and musical director Leon Russell, it draws equally from rock (the Rolling Stones, Traffic, Bob Dylan, the Beatles) and soul (Ray Charles, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, The Box Tops). Lonely Planet is a travel guide book publisher. Founded in Australia in 1973, the company has printed over 150 million books. History 20th century Lonely Planet was founded by married couple Maureen Wheeler, Maureen and Tony Wheeler. In 1972, they embarked on an overland trip through Europe and Asia to Australia following the route of the Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition. The company name originates from the Mondegreen, misheard "lovely planet" in a song written by Matthew Moore. Tony Wheeler (born 20 December 1946) is an English-born Australian publishing entrepreneur, businessman and travel writer, co-founder of the Lonely Planet guidebook company with his wife, Maureen Wheeler. Wheeler was born in England.
