Masresha Fetene
Masresha Fetene FAAS (, born 15 December 1954) is an Ethiopian professor of Plant Ecophysiology at the Department of Plant Biology and Biodiversity Management, Addis Ababa University. Early life and education Masresha Fetene was born in Mertolemariam, Gojjam, Amhara Region, Ethiopia on 15 December 1954. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the Department of Biology, Addis Ababa University (1976–1982) with a distinction, followed by a Master of Science from the same institute (1983–1985). He then completed a PhD in Plant Ecophysiology (1987–1990) from the Institute of Botany, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, on German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD) PhD Fellowship, before becoming a Research Assistant until 1992 at the University of Bayreuth on a Research Fellowship funded by German research Foundation. Amhara Region
The Amhara Region (), officially the Amhara National Regional State (), is a Regions of Ethiopia, regional state in northern Ethiopia and the homeland of the Amhara people, Amhara, Awi people, Awi, Xamir people, Xamir, Argobba people, Argobba, and Qemant people, Qemant people. Biodiversity is the variability of life, life on Earth. It can be measured on various levels. Ethiopian Scholars
Ethiopians are the native inhabitants of Ethiopia, as well as the global diaspora of Ethiopia. Ethiopians constitute several component ethnic groups, many of which are closely related to ethnic groups in neighboring Eritrea and other parts of the Horn of Africa. The first documented use of the name "Ethiopia" from Greek name , was in the 4th century during the reign of Aksumite king Ezana. There were three ethnolinguistic groups in the Kingdom of Aksum; Semitic, Cushitic, and Nilo-Saharan (ancestors of the modern-day Kunama and Nara). Aster Afwork Gebrekirstos is an Ethiopian scientist and a professor of agroforestry at World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF). Early life and education Aster Gebrekirstos was born in Shire, Tigray, Ethiopia, as the first child of a family of seven. She had the intention of becoming a doctor but her high-school results did not qualify her for the profession and she had to choose between teaching and forestry and she chose the latter. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the Haramaya University. She stayed at the Haramaya University as a graduate assistant immediately after her bachelor's degree before winning the Netherland Fellowship and complete a Master of Science at Wageningen University & Research (1996–1998). The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences is a national academy founded on April 10, 2010. Pediatrician Demissie Habte served as its inaugural president. The founding class of fellows included 50 people across the natural and social sciences. It was started by researchers from Addis Ababa University with support from the Royal Society until 2011. Its founding executive director is plant ecophysiologist Masresha Fetene. Brhane Gebrekidan, an agronomist, is vice president.
