Masochistic Religion
Masochistic Religion was a Canadian Gothic rock, goth music group and one of the first goth bands from Toronto, Ontario. The band went through many line-up changes over the years, with the only consistent member being its founder, Mitchell D. Krol (aka James Junkin Jr., born May 23, 1966). History In 1987, Krol was playing in a punk band, and found it confining. As he told Nancy Kilpatrick for her 2004 book ''The Goth Bible: A Compendium for the Darkly Inclined'', "I was doing a lot of drugs, getting heavily into the S&M scene and spending a lot of time with my friend Malissa X. I played her some of my music and it really turned her on...so we came up with this concept of Masochistic Religion, a sort of dark S&M theater done to music. All the lyrics were about sex, death, religion, pleasure and pain, and the show was heavy, real and probably illegal." The Opera House (Toronto)
The Opera House is a music venue in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is one of the city's most historic performing venues, opening in 1909. It has also been a cinema and a live theatre venue. It is located at 735 Queen Street East, east of downtown in the Riverdale neighbourhood. History The building opened in 1909 as the La Plaza Theatre, an Edwardian vaudeville stage. Seating almost 700, it was the main entertainment venue in the primarily working-class neighbourhood. Faith And The Muse
Faith and the Muse is an American rock band composed of Monica Richards and William Faith. Their music encompasses many genres, from folk music to dark wave, drawing on many sources and influences, notably Dead Can Dance. Richards is the primary singer, although Faith sings one or two tracks on each album. Their influences include dark alternative, gothic rock, Celtic, and other folk influences. Welsh and Irish mythology have often served as inspiration to many of the band's songs. Biography Monica Richards, a native of Washington, D.C., is a musician/artist/poet/scholar. An April March was a Canadian alternative rock band formed in Kitchener, Ontario, in 1989. The band's last incarnation consisted of singer/guitarist Danella Hocevar, guitarist Chris Perry and drummer Michael Klüg. The band "An April March" is not to be confused with April March, or Russian and French bands called by similar names. History The band members met in 1989 in Kitchener, Ontario, called themselves The Whittingtons and self-released a demo cassette. After Hocevar and Perry moved to Toronto, the band changed its name to An April March and began recording and performing in Toronto at venues such as the Horseshoe Tavern.
