Marlize De Bruin
Marlize de Bruin (born 11 November 1994) is a South African sportswomen. As a netball player, she played for UP-Tuks in Varsity Netball and for Gauteng Jaguars in the Premier Netball League. She also represented the South Africa national netball team at the 2016 Fast5 Netball World Series. As a rugby sevens player, she represented the South Africa women's national rugby sevens team at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens and at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Early life, family and education De Bruin was born and raised in Pretoria and attended Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool. Between 2015 and 2020, she attended the University of Pretoria where she gained degrees in education and sports management and trained to be a teacher. During her training she worked as a teacher at Afrikaans Hoër Meisieskool and as a netball coach at Pretoria High School for Girls. World Netball, previously known as the International Netball Federation and the International Federation of Netball Associations, is the worldwide governing body for Netball. The Netball South Africa Diamond Challenge is an international netball series hosted by Netball South Africa. The series traditionally features South Africa playing a series of test matches against mostly visiting African national teams. South Africa won the inaugural 2012 series. 2021 SPAR Challenge Series
The 2021 SPAR Challenge Series was the sixth Diamond Challenge netball series.. The series was played at the Cape Town International Convention Centre and broadcast live on SuperSport in South Africa. It was originally scheduled to be played in January 2021, however it was delayed due to a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa. It was eventually played in March 2021. It was effectively two separate series played alongside each other. South Africa, Namibia and Uganda played each other in a Tri Nations Series that earned them points on the World Netball Rankings. Meanwhile, two invitational teams, a Netball South Africa President's XII and the Baby Proteas played each other in a series of five matches. 2018 Diamond Challenge
The 2018 Diamond Challenge was the fifth Diamond Challenge netball series. It featured South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and a Netball South Africa President's XII. The series was played in late November and early December 2018 at Seshego's Ngoako Ramathlodi Sports Complex. With a team coached by Norma Plummer and captained by Bongiwe Msomi, South Africa won the series. 2016 Diamond Challenge
The 2016 Diamond Challenge was the fourth Diamond Challenge netball series. It featured South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe and a Netball South Africa President's XII. The series was played in October 2016 at the Westville Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. With a team coached by Norma Plummer and captained by Bongiwe Msomi, South Africa won the series. South Africa finished the series undefeated, winning all four matches. In the final they defeated Zimbabwe 68–34. Zimbabwe, 21st in the World Netball Rankings, qualified for the final and caused an upset when they beat Uganda, ranked 8th, 42–39 in their final group stage match. 2018 ANZ Premiership Season
The 2018 ANZ Premiership season was the second season of Netball New Zealand's ANZ Premiership. With a team coached by Reinga Bloxham, captained by Wendy Frew and featuring Gina Crampton, Shannon Francois, Te Paea Selby-Rickit and Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit, Southern Steel (netball), Southern Steel retained the title, winning their second consecutive premiership. Central Pulse finished the regular season as minor premiers. However, in the grand final Steel defeated Pulse 54–53. Southern Steel are a netball in New Zealand, New Zealand netball team based in Invercargill. Between 2008 ANZ Championship season, 2008 and 2016 ANZ Championship season, 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017 ANZ Premiership season, 2017 they have represented Netball South in the ANZ Premiership. Netball South is the governing body that represents Southland, New Zealand, Southland and Otago. The Netball New Zealand Super Club was a netball tournament organised by Netball New Zealand. It featured teams from the ANZ Premiership as well as invited overseas teams, including teams from Australia, Great Britain, South Africa and Singapore. The 2018 Netball New Zealand Super Club was the second edition of Netball New Zealand's invitational tournament. With a team coached by Yvette McCausland-Durie, captained by Katrina Grant and featuring Karin Burger, Aliyah Dunn, Ameliaranne Ekenasio, Sulu Fitzpatrick and Claire Kersten, Central Pulse finished the tournament as winners after defeating Mainland Tactix 61–56 in the final. The 2017 Netball New Zealand Super Club was the inaugural Netball New Zealand Super Club tournament. With a team coached by Reinga Bloxham, captained by Wendy Frew and featuring Gina Crampton, Jhaniele Fowler-Reid, Shannon Francois, and Jane Watson, Southern Steel finished the tournament as inaugural winners.
