2018 Diamond Challenge
The 2018 Diamond Challenge was the fifth Diamond Challenge netball series. It featured South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and a Netball South Africa President's XII. The series was played in late November and early December 2018 at Seshego's Ngoako Ramathlodi Sports Complex. With a team coached by Norma Plummer and captained by Bongiwe Msomi, South Africa won the series. South Africa finished the series undefeated, winning all five matches, and Msomi was named the Player of the Tournament. The series was broadcast live on SuperSport in South Africa. Seshego
Seshego is a township in the Polokwane Local Municipality of the Capricorn District Municipality of the Limpopo province of the Republic of South Africa. The township lies directly northwest of the city of Polokwane. History Between 1972 and 1974 Seshego was the capital of the non-independent Bantustan of Lebowa, which was abolished in 1994. The township's industries produce food, beverages, tobacco, textiles, wearing apparel, leather goods, wood and wood products, fabricated metal products, machinery, and equipment. Many of Seshego's inhabitants commute to Polokwane for employment. Zones Seshego is divided into residential 8 zones. Gauteng Jaguars
Gauteng Jaguars are a netball in South Africa, South African netball team based at the University of Pretoria. Since 2014 in South Africa, 2014, together with Gauteng Golden Fireballs, they have represented Gauteng in the Telkom Netball League. They are the league's most successful team and, as of 2024, have featured in every final. Between 2017 and 2021, Jaguars won five successive titles. In 2023, they won a sixth title. Shadine Van Der Merwe
Shadine van der Merwe (born 25 November 1992) is a South Africa netball international. She has represented South Africa at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games and at the 2019 and 2023 Netball World Cups. In South Africa, she played for UP-Tuks in Varsity Netball and for Gauteng Jaguars in the Brutal Fruit Netball Cup. In 2017 she captained both teams to national titles. She has since played for Surrey Storm, Manchester Thunder and Loughborough Lightning in the Netball Superleague and for Adelaide Thunderbirds in Suncorp Super Netball. Wasps Netball
Wasps Netball were an English netball team based at the Coventry Building Society Arena in Coventry, Warwickshire. Wasps Netball was formed in 2016 as a partnership with the Premiership Rugby team, Wasps RFC. Since 2017 their senior team has played in the Netball Superleague. They were Superleague champions in 2017 and 2018. Renske Stoltz
Renske Stoltz is a South African netball player. Early life Stoltz was born in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga before shifting with her family to Rustenburg, North West. She has played netball for the past seventeen years and attended Hoërskool Rustenburg. Career Stoltz earned her first cap against New Zealand in the Netball Quad Series. She was also part of the under-19 Baby Proteas squad. She also participated in the Brutal Fruit Netball Cup for the North West Flames and represented her university in the local varsity championship. She also played for Loughborough Lightning in the British Fast5 All Stars Netball Championship whereby she sank a last-minute five pointer in the grand final against Team Bath to earn the championship title as well as earned the player of the series award. Waikato Bay Of Plenty Magic
Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic are a New Zealand netball team based in Hamilton. The team were formed in 1998, following the merger of Waikato Wildcats and Bay of Plenty Magic. In 1997, Wildcats and Magic had been founder members of the Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup league. Between 1999 and 2007, the new team continued to play in the league. Magic are the only team from the Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup era to have retained their original name. Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship. Lenize Potgieter (born 2 May 1994) is a South African professional netball player who currently plays for Manchester Thunder and the South African national team. Early life Potgieter was born in Polokwane, Limpopo before moving to Pretoria to pursue her high school career at Hoërskool Menlopark and further her studies and netball career. She has played netball for the past seventeen years. Career Lenize has represented her province of Limpopo at respective provincial netball tournaments. Sunshine Coast Lightning are a professional Australian netball team based at the University of the Sunshine Coast. The team was formed in 2016 as a joint venture between the university and Melbourne Storm. Since 2017 they have played in Suncorp Super Netball. Karla Pretorius (née Mostert; born 12 March 1990) is a South African netball player, and has represented her country with the South Africa national netball team. She plays in the positions of Goal Defence (GD) and Wing Defence (WD). She previously played for the Sunshine Coast Lightning in the Suncorp Super Netball competition. Phumza Maweni
Phumza Maweni (born September 4, 1984) is a South African netball player in the Netball Superleague in the UK, representing Team Bath Netball. Maweni was raised in Cala, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. She went on to compete for the Kingdom Stars and Southern Stings in the South African Brutal Fruit Netball Cup and has also played several seasons in England's Netball Superleague, first for the Loughborough Lightning and later for the Severn Stars. Severn Stars are an netball in England, English netball team based at the University of Worcester. The team is named after the River Severn, which runs through Worcester, England, Worcester and Gloucester, the original home cities of the two universities. Severn Stars were formed in 2016 in England, 2016 and since 2017 Netball Superleague season, 2017 their senior team has played in the Netball Superleague. Maryka Holtzhausen (born 2 June 1987) is a former South African netball player. She played in the positions of GA and WA. She was a member of the South Africa national netball team, and competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and the 2011 World Netball Championships in Singapore. She also participated in the 2010 World Netball Series and the 2011 World Netball Series. She played in the 2012 Netball Quad Series, and in the same year, she won a bronze medal in 2012 Fast5 Netball World Series with the Fast5 Proteas.
