Mark Beers (footballer)
Mark Edward Beers (born 15 August 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood Football Club, Collingwood in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). In his first two seasons he played 31 senior games. In his next and final two seasons, Beers only played 9 senior games. However, he contributed at the reserves level, winning the team's best and fairest jointly with Paul Rizonico in 1987. After leaving Collingwood and the VFL, Beers joined Kyabram Football Club, Kyabram in the Goulburn Valley Football League (GVFL), becoming the team captain, and afterwards, the senior coach. In 2006, Beers was appointed as assistant and reserves coach for the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) team Old Scotch Football Club, Old Scotch. Victoria Park is a sports venue in Abbotsford, a suburb of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. The stadium is oval shaped and was built to host Australian rules football and cricket matches. In the past Victoria Park featured a cycling track, tennis courts, and a baseball club that once played curtain raisers to football matches. Victoria Park is historically notable as a former Australian Football League (known as the Victorian Football League until 1989) venue between 1892 and 1999 and headquarters of the Collingwood Football Club for 107 years until 2004. In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final. Paul Rizonico
Paul Rizonico (born 16 February 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and with Port Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Before joining Collingwood at the VFL level, Rizonico played for Bundoora's junior team. In the 1987 season, Rizonico played 12 senior games and scored 5 goals for Collingwood, as well as contributing at the reserves level. For his latter contribution Rizonico won the best and fairest award, the Joseph Wren Memorial Trophy, jointly with Mark Beers, when it was first awarded in 1987. The Kyabram Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Bombers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Kyabram, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Goulburn Valley Football League (GVFL). Kyabram was a foundation club in the Goulburn Valley Football League (GVFL) and has been one of the most dominant. Only the Shepparton Football Club have won more premierships. The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is the largest senior community Australian rules football competition in Victoria. It consists of seven senior men's and women's divisions ranging from Premier to Division 4. In addition there are U19's sections and five Thirds sections, primarily made up of either clubs only able to field one team, or clubs from higher sections that can field a third team after their seniors and reserves. Brian Beers
Brian Beers (born 31 January 1939) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood and Fitzroy in the VFL. Family He is the father of Mark Beers and Tony Beers, who both also played for Collingwood. Football Collingwood (VFL) A half forward, Beers was a member of Collingwood's 1958 premiership team and kicked two goals in the grand final. In 1959 he kicked a career high 28 goals for the year and the following season he played in the Collingwood side which lost the 1960 Grand Final. Fitzroy (VFL) He crossed to Fitzroy in 1962 where he finished his career. On 6 July 1963, playing on the half-forward flank, he was a member of the young and inexperienced Fitzroy team that comprehensively and unexpectedly defeated Geelong, 9.13 (67) to 3.13 (31) in the 1963 Miracle Match.
