Maria Abramovna (Avraamovna) Zubreeva (russian: Мари́я Абра́мовна Зубре́ева; August 21, 1900, village Korukovka, the Chernigov Governorate, Ukraine, Russian Empire – October 8, 1991, Saint Petersburg, USSR) was a Soviet realist painter, watercolorist, graphic artist, and designer, who lived and worked in Leningrad. She was regarded as one of the representatives of the Leningrad school of painting. Zubreeva was born August 21, 1900 in the village Korukovka of the Chernigov Governorate, located in the historical Left-bank Ukraine region of the Russian Empire. Socialist realism is a style of idealized realistic art that was developed in the Soviet Union and was the official style in that country between 1932 and 1988, as well as in other socialist countries after World War II. Socialist realism is characterized by the depiction of communist values, such as the emancipation of the proletariat.
