Mardi Gras Service
The ''Mardi Gras Service'' is a planned passenger train service to be operated by Amtrak along the Gulf Coast of the United States. The service will consist of two daily round trips between New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama, with stops in Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula, Mississippi. The train will have a scheduled transfer with the ''City of New Orleans''. Service is expected to begin on August 18, 2025. The ''Mardi Gras Service'' follows the same route as the '' Gulf Coast Limited'', a daily train operated by Amtrak in 1984–1985, and again in 1996–1997. The corridor was also served by the long-distance ''Sunset Limited'' from 1993 to 2005. Route The ''Mardi Gras Service'' is planned to operate over a route from New Orleans to Mobile, hugging the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal (NOUPT) is an intermodal passenger transport, intermodal facility in New Orleans, Louisiana, US. Located at 1001 Loyola Avenue, it is served by Amtrak, Greyhound Lines, Megabus (North America), Megabus, and New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, NORTA with direct connections to the Rampart–Loyola Streetcar Line. Gulfport station is a closed Amtrak intercity train station in Gulfport, Mississippi, United States. Gulfport is a former union station that served the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and Gulf and Ship Island Railroad (which was succeeded by the Illinois Central Railroad). Coast Transit Authority
The Coast Transit Authority is the primary provider of mass transportation in the Gulfport–Biloxi metropolitan area. Service was founded in 1974, after the Mississippi State Legislature passed a bill authorizing the creation of public transit for the region; the area's previous private bus operator, Municipal Transit Lines, had been devastated by Hurricane Camille, and the area was left with no public transportation for a 3-year period after the disaster. Originally known as the Mississippi Coast Transit Authority, the agency changed its name to Coast Area Transit in 1985, before arriving on its current moniker in 1992. Biloxi Station
Biloxi station is a closed and unstaffed Amtrak intercity train station in Biloxi, Mississippi. There is no station building; there is only a covered platform. The station is across the street from the Biloxi Transit Center, which serves Coast Transit Authority and Greyhound buses. Amtrak service to Biloxi began with the ''Gulf Coast Limited'', which operated between 1984 and 1985. The stop was reactivated on March 31, 1993 in service on the ''Sunset Limited''. Pascagoula Station
Pascagoula station is a closed intercity train station in Pascagoula, Mississippi, United States. It originally the served the Louisville and Nashville Railroad but was most recently a stop for Amtrak. The station is on the National Register of Historic Places as the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Depot, and was designated a Mississippi Landmark by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. In addition, the station serves as an art gallery owned by the Singing River Art Association.
