Mapusa () is a city in North Goa, India. It is situated 13 km north of the state capital of Panaji. The city is the headquarters of Bardez taluka. It is located on the main highway NH-17, linking Mumbai to Kochi. During Portuguese India, the city was known as "Mapuçá". History Mapusa is a small city clustered around the Mount (Alto). The name Mapusa is thought to be derived from the Konkani word for a 'measure' - 'map' and the phrase fill up - 'sa'. Saraswat Vidyalaya
Saraswat Vidyalaya is an educational institution located in Khorlim, Mapusa, Goa, India. It was founded as a primary school by the Saraswat Education Society in March 1911, and gave instruction in the Marathi language. The original school building near to Mapusa police station survives and was repurposed as a bank after the school moved to Khorlim. Mapusa Friday Market
Mapusa Municipal Market (also known as Mapusa Market and Mapusa Friday Market) is a traditional market in Mapusa, North Goa and a major tourist attraction. It was built in 1960, the first planned market in Goa. The market has three blocks with 164 shops, some of which have been sub-divided, so bringing the total to 173. It is open every day, except Sunday; and is particularly popular on Friday mornings. The trade Goan vendors come in from the surrounding villages to sell their locally grown or manufactured wares, such as spices, fruits, jewellery, pottery, chickens, incense and carpets. Many of the stalls in the bazaar are grouped by type of goods, with special areas for straw hats, Goan home-made chouriço and the like.
