Maoz Inon
Maoz Inon (; born 1975) is an Israeli entrepreneur and peace activist. Inon has founded several tourism initiatives within Israel and the Middle East, including the Jesus Trail, Fauzi Azar Inn, and Abraham Hostel and Tour brands. Since the murder of his parents in the Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, Inon has become a voice for peace between Israelis and Palestinians within international media. Early life Maoz Inon was born in kibbutz Nir Am in the north-western Negev. At age 14 he moved with his family to a nearby Israeli community, Netiv HaAsara, just next to the Israeli border with Gaza. Career Inon's work in the tourism industry has largely focused on attracting backpackers and independent travellers to Israel. He ascribes to the idea that improving responsible tourism will also drive positive political change through boosts to the local economy. Nir Am
Nir Am () is a kibbutz in southern Israel. Located next to the city of Sderot and around two kilometres from the Gaza Strip, the kibbutz covers 20,000 dunams. It falls under the jurisdiction of Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council. In it had a population of . History Nir Am was established on 19 August 1943 by immigrants from Bessarabia who were members of the Gordonia youth movement, including Zvi Guershoni, later a member of the Knesset. Over the years the kibbutz has also absorbed immigrants from Argentina, France and South Africa. During the 1948 war it was the headquarters of the Negev Brigade. In a report written in March 1948 by Yaakov Riftin investigating abuses in Haganah and Palmach units, it emerged that an Arab was seized, tortured and killed. During 2023 Hamas attack, Nir Am was one of few villages near Gaza that avoided casualties due to the quick action of its security team, which managed to repel attacks by Hamas gunmen.
